The Athletics Department at The College at Brockport, State University of New York is comprised of 23 sports and is accepting applications for the Head Coach of Men’s and Women’s Cross Country/Assistant Coach of the Track and Field programs. The Head Coach is responsible for the supervision of all aspects of the Cross Country programs. The Assistant Coach of Track and Field is responsible for an assigned event group. This is a fulltime, 12 month position that reports to the Director of Athletics.
Coaches an assigned event group. Completes player evaluations. Monitors the academic performance of student-athletes. Serves as the meet manager for home meets. Coordinates and plans practice sessions and competitions for Cross Country and Indoor/Outdoor Track and Field Programs. Schedules team meets and practices and arranges team travel. Performs administrative duties including maintaining equipment inventory, monitoring budget, and correspondence with athletic administration and support staff. Supervises assistant coaching staff, volunteers and practicum students. Supervises all student-athletes while away on intercollegiate athletic trips. Ensures compliance with the NCAA and SUNYAC rules and regulations. This includes taking and passing the annual NCAA Division III rules test. Represents the sports program to various institutional entities and externally to students, parents, and the general public. Conducts recruitment of student-athletes in accordance with NCAA rules through scouting, attending meets, and possible home visits. Recruits and retains skilled and academically qualified student-athletes. Develops fundraising initiatives for alumni relation events. Attends all required staff meetings. Serves as a leader, mentor, and role model for the Department of Athletics. Assists with intercollegiate event management.
Bachelor’s degree by time of appointment from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university; prior NCAA coaching experience; cross country and/or track and field coaching experience; certification in CPR, first aid, must complete AED training within three months after hire; excellent organizational, interpersonal and communication skills; knowledge of Microsoft Word and Excel; must secure a New York State driver’s license within three months after hire to drive College owned vehicles; and, must complete Van Safety Certification within three months after hire.
Master’s degree from a college or university accredited by the U.S. Department of Education or an internationally recognized college or university; minimum three years successful experience in coaching cross country and/or track and field at an NCAA member institution; previous experience supervising professional coaching staff; and, demonstrated commitment to Division III philosophy.
