Virginia Military Institute (VMI), an NCAA Division I and Southern Conference (SOCON) member, is seeking candidates for the position of Director of Athletics Equipment & Services. The selected candidate will report to the Deputy Athletic Director and will be responsible for all equipment and laundry services and operations within the Department interfacing daily with various coaching staffs.
Duties and responsibilities:
•The position requires comprehensive knowledge about, and a work history of adherence to, all NCAA, VMI and Southern Conference rules and regulations. Applicants must be able to operate within all VMI and Virginia purchasing processes and procedures.
•Applicants must have a demonstrated ability to fit and repair protective athletic equipment.
•Requires working knowledge of inventory systems and ability to control all equipment, footwear and apparel.
•The position requires strong organizational skills.
•The applicant must be adept at developing strong relationships with vendors and companies specializing in athletic equipment, footwear and apparel is essential.
•The candidate must be able to support and oversee the fulfillment of footwear and apparel contracts.
•Excellent communication skills and willingness to interact with coaching staff on a daily basis are a necessity.
•Applicants must be able to adjust to a flexible work schedule.
•Candidates must understand laundry operations and services.
•The position requires the ability to support coaching staffs with the design and selection of uniforms.
•The position supervises one full-time assistant and a laundry worker. Applicants must be able to develop and monitor work schedules for direct reports to ensure equipment/laundry room coverage and operations for all NCAA practices and competitions.
•The candidate will be expected to work closely with, and in support of, the football program. and will be housed in the football operations building.
•The position will be required to travel to selected team competitions.
•The candidate can expect other duties as assigned and reasonably linked to function area.
Job Requirements (Education and Experience):
A bachelor’s degree is required
Athletic Equipment Managers Association (AEMA) certification is a prerequisite for applicants.
At least 2 years of college athletics equipment & services experience will be valued as an attribute for the position.
