Old Dominion University, a NCAA Division I member of Conference USA, is accepting applications for the First Assistant Women’s Crew Coach (full-time, 12 month) position. This position will assist the Head Women’s Crew Coach in the management of the women’s rowing program. The primary responsibility will be the enhancement of the women’s crew program and the instruction and counseling of student-athletes in the program. Other duties include: •Teach the fundamentals and mechanics of women’s rowing. Explain and enforce safety rules and regulations. Instruct student-athletes and encourage them to succeed in academic and athletic pursuits, it being understood that one of the primary goals of the University’s athletic program is to graduate its student-athletes •Manage, coordinate and oversee all aspects of recruiting prospective student-athletes. This includes identification, making contacts, communication, developing and implementing tracking systems within the NCAA, Conference, and University regulations and the University’s standards for admission. This will also involve frequent travel. •Assist the head coach overall with practice and competition sessions. Assist the head coach with arranging team transportation, housing and meals for the student/athletes and staff. •Represent the University in a manner that projects sportsmanship and integrity at all times. On- and off-the-water behavior will be considered extremely important in this regard. Fulfilling such other duties that arise or are assigned by the Head Women’s Rowing Coach. •Understand and abide by applicable policies and regulations of Old Dominion University, the Conference, and the NCAA by using available handbooks, manuals, and seminars to insure that no policy violations occur.
Required Education: Master’s degree or bachelor’s degree with experience equivalent to an advanced degree.
Required Qualifications: Rowing coaching experience. Demonstrated strong commitment to working within NCAA rules and guidelines and a commitment to the academic goals of Old Dominion University. Strong organizational, communication, and public relations skills.
Preferred Qualifications: Top level collegiate, club, or international rowing or coaching experience. Recruiting experience. Collegiate rowing experience.
