Ashland University is an NCAA Division II institution that competes in the Great Lakes Intercollegiate Athletic Conference (GLIAC), one of the most highly respected NCAA Division II conferences in the country. Ashland University offers a comprehensive 23-sport athletic program. The university is located off of Interstate 71 in Ashland, Ohio, midway between Cleveland and Columbus.
This position reports to the Director of Athletics. The position is part of the Athletics Executive staff and will be involved in regular departmental meetings and interact on a regular basis with coaches and student-athletes.
Compliance duties include audits and certification of all student-athletes for NCAA, GLIAC and institutional eligibility. The compliance director also records and reports all NCAA and GLIAC compliance issues. This position works with offices across campus in maintaining, updating and reviewing Ashland University report systems.
This position will produce eligibility and compliance reports for the director of athletics and other offices on campus including the president and provost. It will also produce a variety of annual reports for the NCAA.
This position will attend clinics, seminars, conventions and workshops regionally and nationally to stay current on NCAA legislation and all trends in the field.
The compliance director will attend various GLIAC meetings and seminars. This director may also be called upon to represent Ashland University and the athletic department at other selected events such as GLIAC and NCAA postseason events.
A strong working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations is required in this position. The ability to attend NCAA conferences and workshops is required. Knowledge of compliance software is also required.
This position will educate Ashland University coaches and staff on NCAA and GLIAC rules and regulations. That will include directing on-campus workshops and seminars.
This position will be present at various forums, meetings and gatherings to explain NCAA rules and procedures to fans, prospective student-athletes, parents and staff outside of the athletic department.
A major role of this position will be to work in concert with the director of athletics in monitoring team rosters so they meet university goals. This position works closely with financial aid, the registrar, academic counseling, the business office and the provost.
The compliance director will serve on various campus committees. This position may also be asked to serve on conference and national committees and represent the athletic department at functions on and off campus.
The position will assist the Director of Internal Operations in working closely with coaches and athletic department staff in meeting budget requirements. The position assists with the budgets for all athletic teams and several areas of the athletic department and is also involved in monitoring the financial activity of several athletic booster clubs.
This position will help generate a wide range of reports for coaches and administrators inside and outside the department to monitor the financial health of each program and the department as a whole.
This position will work closely with the director of athletics in reviewing the budget and will be heavily involved in decisions concerning expenditures, capital improvements, expansion of programs and hiring within the department.
A bachelor’s degree is required. A master’s degree is preferred.
A thorough understanding and knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations is essential. Prior experience in college athletic administration is preferred. Experience working with compliance software is highly desired.
Candidate should have a strong background in business and in reading and understanding balance sheets and financial printouts.
This position requires well-developed communication skills. The ability to make presentations and speak to and in front of small and large groups is required.
The ability to work some weekends and evenings is required. This position requires non-traditional hours. The ability to work under time constraints and handle several assignments at one time is required.
Some overnight travel will be required with this position.
