SUNY Maritime College located on a 55-acre scenic waterfront property on the outskirts of New York City on the Throggs Neck peninsula where the East River meets Long Island Sound. Responsible for assisting with all aspects of media and sports information relating to the college's 16 intercollegiate sports: Men's & Women's Cross Country, Football, Men's & Women's Soccer, Women's Volleyball, Men's Basketball, Men's & Women's Swimming & Diving, Men's & Women's Rowing, Baseball, Men's & Women's Lacrosse, and Co-Ed Dinghy & Offshore Sailing teams. The Assistant Sports Information Director is required to abide by the rules and regulations established by SUNY Maritime College, all sports affiliated conferences and the NCAA. The job entails regular office hours during the week as well as nights and weekends as needed.
Directly Supervises: Interns & Game-Day Staff
Writing and editing press releases, and game-day programs
Compiling statistics and records using StatCrew/Genius Sports
Updating the College's athletics website
Develop the use of new media and technology to promote the athletic department.
Broaden current social media platforms and strategies for the department, while creating a larger presence within the social media.
Training and overseeing student interns.
Assist in the set-up and break down of events.
Responsible for attending all home football games and additional competition dates throughout the year, assigned by the SID.
Assist in coordination of special athletic events, including but not limited to the Athletics Awards Ceremony, as well as other events and projects assigned by the Sports Information Director.
Fundraising activities when applicable Attend all mandatory staff meetings for part time employees Completion of Campus Security Authority Training, HR Module Training, Van Driver Certification, NCAA Exam All other duties assigned by the Athletic Director
Bachelor's Degree in Journalism, Communications, Sports Management or related degree
Minimum 1 to 3 years in Sports Information/Athletic Media Relations Field
Student experience in Sports Information department applicable
General journalism experience
Must possess excellent written and verbal communication skills/knowledge of AP Style
Master's Degree in Journalism, Communications, Sports Management or related field
SIDEARM Sport Content Management System Skills
Knowledge of Adobe InDesign/Photoshop
Video Editing Skills
Basic Photographic Skills
Classification/Salary Range: The Assistant Sports Information Director is a UUP Position. The anticipated salary range for this position is $12,000 annually (for information regarding UUP Benefits please see the P/T UUP Benefits Summary).
