The Southland Conference, located in suburban north Dallas, and serving 13 member institutions in Texas, Louisiana and Arkansas, is seeking applications for the position of Business Operations Assistant, a 10-month internship. The selected candidate shall be responsible for assisting in the management of the Conference’s business operations under the direction of the Commissioner and Senior Associate Commissioner for Internal Operations. The selected candidate shall be involved with the Conference’s financial management including budgeting, purchasing, accounts payable, payroll services, payment for officiating services, and the management and distribution of receivables from the NCAA, the College Football Playoff, television companies, corporate sponsors, championships, and other sources. The selected candidate will also be directly involved with event management pertaining to ordering and sales of merchandise at Conference championship events and other Conference events. The selected candidate shall also perform other administrative duties as determined by the Commissioner and Senior Associate Commissioner for Internal Operations.
Bachelor’s degree required, preferably in accounting or business administration/finance. Preference may also be given to candidates with previous financial management experience in NCAA Division I athletics, higher education, professional sports, or public accounting. Experience with accounting software systems, general Microsoft Office platforms, and other business technology is strongly preferred. The position, beginning Aug. 1, 2019 and concluding May 31, 2020, provides a monthly stipend of $1,800, plus participation in the Conference’s medical, dental and vision insurance plans.
