This internship will provide the opportunity to receive sports administration education and training in one of the premier college conference offices. This position will be exposed to and involved in the ongoing development of West Coast Conference (WCC) initiatives, providing hands-on experience and learning opportunities, particularly in the area of compliance, student-athlete involvement, and governance.
65% Assistance with the Conference’s compliance services. Examples of associated tasks include: •NCAA and WCC compliance record management, education and interpretations. •NCAA and WCC waiver administration. •NCAA violation administration. •National Letter of Intent program administration. •NCAA legislative process and proposal tracking support. •Participate in preparations for meetings and conference calls, as appropriate.
15% Assist with the Conference’s governance and student-athlete services. Examples of associated tasks include: •Governance process and proposal administration support. •WCC Student-Athlete Advisory Committee (SAAC) support. •Conference research related to governance recommendations and/or sport administration. •Participate in preparations for meetings and conference calls with WCC Cabinets, Committees, and Head Coaches groups, as appropriate.
10% Assist with the Conference’s championships and events. Examples of associated tasks include: •Specific duties as assigned at the 2019 WCC Men’s and Women’s Basketball Tournament in Las Vegas. •Other opportunities to work at WCC championships and events.
10% Other projects and responsibilities based on areas of interest and experience.
Required and Preferred Qualifications: •Demonstrated experience with the WCC’s core values of integrity, servant leadership, inclusion, innovation, communication, and collaboration. •Demonstrated enrollment towards or completion of a Bachelor’s, Master’s or equivalent degree required. •Athletics administration and/or sports management experience or related volunteer experience preferred. •Demonstrated high-level proficiency in Microsoft programs (e.g., Outlook, Word, Excel, PowerPoint), HTML, Adobe Creative Suite required. Proficiency and experience with Apple computers and operating systems and Adobe Creative Suite preferred. •Effective professional communication, both orally and in writing. Proficiency in drafting and editing written communications. •Working knowledge of intercollegiate athletics, the West Coast Conference and its institutions’ programs and/or higher education preferred.
The start date of the internship is August 1, 2019, and the end date is June 30, 2020. Hours are to be arranged with the intern’s supervisor, but the intern is expected to work 20 hours per week. The intern will be paid $13/hour but will not receive benefits.
