Brief Position Summary:
This internship will provide the opportunity to receive digital and social media experience and training in one of the premier college conference offices. This position will be exposed to and involved in the ongoing development of West Coast Conference initiatives, providing hands-on experience and learning opportunities, particularly in the areas of social media, graphic design and communications. The successful candidate will assist the Communications, Creative Services and Video Departments with high-level work in key areas.
50% Assist with the Conference’s Social Media efforts. Examples of associated tasks include: •Assist with the execution of the WCC’s social media plan and contribute to the planning of social media strategy and content. •Create content using photos, videos and graphic design skills for all social media. channels, including Twitter, Facebook and Instagram. •Track metrics for social media usage throughout the year. •Stay current on social media trends to help further the WCC’s social media plan.
20% Assist with digital media at the Conference office. Examples of associated tasks include: •Create graphics/animation for digital use with Adobe Creative Suite. •Assist the video department in editing video for social media and digital use. •Potential opportunity to shoot, edit or produce features, highlight packages or championship recaps for the WCC Digital Network. •Assist with maintaining the organization of video archives. 20% Support the Conference’s external relations team. Examples of associated tasks include: •Projects and responsibilities based on areas of interest and experience, including support at selected championships. •Potential to serve as the primary communications contact for selected Olympic sports.
10% Other duties as assigned. Examples include: •Operational support at selected championships as assigned.
•Demonstrated experience with the WCC’s core values of integrity, servant leadership, inclusion, innovation, communication, and collaboration. •Demonstrated enrollment toward, or completion of, a Bachelor’s, Master’s or equivalent degree required. •Social media, digital media, athletics administration and/or sports management experience or related volunteer experience preferred. •Demonstrated high-level proficiency with Adobe Creative Suite required, including but not limited to Adobe Premiere, After Effects/Media Encoder and Photoshop. Knowledge of other video programs and/or Adobe InDesign is a plus. •Experience using multiple social media platforms (Facebook, Twitter, Instagram, YouTube, Snapchat) preferred. •Effective professional communication, both orally and in writing. •Experience shooting on professional camcorders, studio, broadcast or DSLR cameras is a plus but not required. •Working knowledge of intercollegiate athletics, the West Coast Conference and its institutions’ programs and/or higher education preferred.
The start date of the internship is August 1, 2019, and the end date is June 30, 2020. Hours are to be arranged with the intern’s supervisor, but the intern is expected to work 20 hours per week. The intern will be paid $13/hour but will not receive benefits. The West Coast Conference is an equal opportunity employer committed to maintaining a diverse working environment.
