Ripon College is seeking applications and nominations for the position of Director of Athletics.
Ripon College, a selective, nationally-known, residential liberal arts college, is a member of the prestigious Associated Colleges of the Midwest and competes at the Division III level in the Midwest Conference. Over a third of our approximately 800 students participate in varsity athletics and 70% participate in intramurals. With the recent $23 million expansion of the Willmore Center, Ripon has outstanding athletic facilities and excellent resources to support student athlete development. The college sponsors 18 intercollegiate sports. Student athletes make up a significant portion of each incoming class, and continuing to successfully recruit these students is a priority for the college.
The Director of Athletics is responsible for maintaining the quality and integrity of athletic programs; supervising of coaching and athletic support staff; managing fiscal resources of the department; coordinating recruitment and program promotion; ensuring compliance with NCAA, the Midwest Conference, federal regulations, and campus policies; collaborating with VP of Student Life on the operation and maintenance of the athletic facilities; and implementing the strategic priorities of the college administration. The Director of Athletics must demonstrate a comprehensive understanding of the educational role of intercollegiate athletics administration within a Division III environment, and a commitment to Ripon College’s core values, particularly in the areas of academic excellence, diversity and student success. The Director of Athletics reports to the Vice President and Dean of Faculty.
Responsibilities and Duties:
•Build collaborative working relationships with admissions, academic affairs, student life, facilities management, and advancement.
•Lead the athletic programs in attracting, recruiting, retaining, and supporting highly talented student-athletes in conjunction with the objectives of Admissions and enrollment.
•Manage the operational and restricted budgets that fund the department, working closely with the Administrative Council to ensure financial resources advance the interests of the college.
•Hire, supervise, and evaluate Ripon College coaching staff and other Athletic Department employees.
•Ensure the objectives of the department and coaches are consistent with the strategic priorities of Ripon College.
•Create and sustain a climate inclusive of diverse students and employees.
•Cultivate and develop relationships with external constituencies, in collaboration with Advancement
•Develop, implement, and monitor policies and procedures that promote best practices and address personnel development, financial management of the department, and foster an environment that provides a positive student-athlete experience.
•Represent Ripon College and the interest of its administration, student-athletes, coaches, and staff in service to the NCAA and the Midwest Conference.
•Collaborate with the Department of Exercise Science to support delivery of academic programs.
•Work closely with the Building Manager of the Willmore Center to attract revenue generating events to the college. •Ensure proper coordination of all competition and practice schedules, including set up and field preparation.
•Ensure compliance with all NCAA regulations and all federal regulations, including Title IX.
•Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree in an applicable field of study strongly preferred.
•Minimum 4 years of progressively responsible experience within college athletics administration.
•Collegiate coaching experience preferred.
•Strong leadership and organizational skills.
•Excellent interpersonal and communications skills.
