The Director of Athletics (AD) oversees the men’s and women’s athletic programs, provides leadership in the execution of all activities, operations, and policies, working with the University administration and other heads of departments, and serves as the University’s principal representative in the field of intercollegiate athletics. The AD is responsible for all sports meeting/exceeding the minimum NCAA Academic Progress standards (APRs) and must demonstrate a commitment to SIUE’s values, particularly in the areas of academic excellence, diversity and student success. Additionally, the AD provides general administrative direction and guidance about the establishment of program goals and is responsible for meeting the necessary requirements of the NCAA, the Office of Civil Rights, the Ohio Valley Conference, and the Mid-American Conference.
Responsibilities & Duties:
Serves as a member of the Extended Chancellor’s Council and reports directly to the Chancellor
Provide supervision of department administrative staff and head coaches
Directs and makes decisions which affect the activities, operations, and policies of the intercollegiate athletic program
Aligns the mission, vision and goals of intercollegiate athletics with those of the University
Approves the hiring of coaches, administrative staff, support staff and other personnel associated with the department
Speaks for the department in matters of policies, operations, and personnel
Oversees annual support programs and promotion activities, serving as the primary fundraiser for the Athletics Department
Assumes primary responsibility for departmental budgeting
Represents the department in local, national, and athletic conference committees and associations
Other duties as assigned by the Chancellor

Minimum Qualifications Required:
Five (5) years of senior-level athletic administration and/or similar type of leadership role in relevant field
Successful experience in personnel supervision and financial management
Experience in external relations
Demonstrated understanding of and commitment to NCAA bylaws and compliance
Ability to work well with and foster relationships with students, staff, faculty, alumni, community, and media
Excellent interpersonal and communication skills
Strong leadership and organizational skills
Previous collegiate athletics administration experience at the Division I or Division II level
