This position is responsible for the day-to-day sports information activities for the university.
Classification Standard Duties Maintains, develops and enhances media relationships, writes news releases; researches and prepares background and briefing materials for interactions that university representatives have with the media. Works with the Director to identify news that support key university sports initiatives and messages and enhances and builds the image of the university sports through strategic media placements. Performs other duties as assigned.
Job Duties and Responsibilities Assist the Director of Media Relations in the day-to-day operations of the NMSU Athletics Media Relations office; supervise, direct, delegate, and evaluate work of assigned staff; produce game notes, media guides, programs and releases; game day management
Knowledge Strong writing and oral communication skills required. Working knowledge of publication design and computerized sports statistical compilation.
Skills Skill in organizing resources and establishing priorities. Strong communication, problem-solving, and interpersonal skills needed. Skill in the use of computers, PC and/or Macintosh computers.
Abilities Ability to effectively communicate. Ability to complete assignments accurately, with attention to detail. Ability to make effective decisions under pressure and meet specific deadlines.
Required Education Bachelor’s degree in a related field.
Required Experience No previous work experience required.
EquivalencyAny equivalent combination of education, training and/or experience as approved by Human Resource Services. Preferred Qualifications (optional) Preferred experience working with Football at the collegiate level.
