This position will report directly to the Director of Academic Support Services for Athletics and will assist in initiatives and programming to promote eligibility, retention, and degree completion for student-athletes on assigned athletics teams.
Characteristic duties and responsibilities: •Serve as an academic advisor to assigned teams, which includes: oWorking with student-athletes to develop educational plans that are consistent with their educational and life goals. oTeaching student-athletes academic policies and procedures that will help them be successful students and attain their educational goals. oTeaching student-athletes about various kinds of graduation requirements relative to NCAA, Great Lakes Valley Conference (GLVC), and University requirements. oAssisting student-athletes with academic schedules. •Oversee study hall program for student-athletes, which includes scheduling study hall hours and locations & hiring proctors. Communicate study hall attendance with student-athletes, Head Coaches, and Sport Supervisors, as well as report on weekly hours. •Create success plans and hold regular meetings with student-athletes who are academically at risk, coordinating a team approach for the student-athletes’ success. •Initiate intervention plans for student-athletes who are flagged as concerns in Starfish, GradesFirst, or on progress reports. •Communicate academic concerns raised in Starfish, GradesFirst, and on progress reports to the Director of Academic Support Services and Head Coaches. •Provide comprehensive semester schedules, retention and grades reports to the Director of Academic Support Services, Head Coaches, and Athletics Administration. •Maintain knowledge of and compliance with specific NCAA, GLVC, and institution rules that relate to this position. •Participate in summer orientation and campus retention activities related to student-athletes. •Work compatibly and cooperatively with all personnel within the Division of Intercollegiate Athletics and on the University of Illinois Springfield campus. •Meet with prospective student-athletes on both official and unofficial visits. •Other duties as assigned.
Qualifications/minimum education and work experience:
Master’s degree in Education, Counseling, Sports Management, or closely related field is required.
One year of professional work experience in athletic academic services at an NCAA, NAIA or NJCAA institution required.
Strong written, oral, and interpersonal communications skills required.
Excellent organizational and teamwork skills required.
Ability to collaborate with multiple campus departments, relate to diverse populations, and work reliably and independently with minimal supervision.
Must be available to work some evenings and weekends.
