The Director of Broadcasting will serve as the primary voice and presence for UMass Athletics while having oversight of the department’s external programming on radio, television and digital platforms. The position will work directly with communications, marketing and Learfield IMG College to manage message and coordination of those assets.
Serve as the primary radio and/or television play-by-play voice of the UMass football and men’s basketball programs.
Serve as the host/producer for UMass generated radio and television programming.
Serve as the host for any digital productions such as, but not limited to, podcasts, digital feature segments, etc.
Serve as a play-by-play voice for live digital event programming (streaming video) when possible.
Work with Learfield IMG College/UMass Sports Properties on creation and execution of a comprehensive broadcast strategy for UMass Athletics for its radio, linear television, and digital medium platforms; included in this is the coordination of all talent assigned to radio/television programming in conjunction with UMass Sports Properties
Work with Learfield IMG College/UMass Sports Properties on identifying and building relationships with current and potential media partners for radio, television and digital platforms.
Serve as a local/regional liaison for media partners (radio and television).
Ensure consistent messaging and sponsorship opportunities across all platforms
Identify/Create new content sources for revenue generation; assist with corporate activation of assets and assist in creating content with goal of client connection.
Assist Learfield IMG College on commercial inventory management
Assist in the creation of in-house produced commercial/radio spots
Serve as an additional touch point/relationship builder for corporate clients
Develop analytical data to determine best strategies/platforms for external broadcast communications
Serve as host/emcee for special functions such as, but not limited to, the UMass Hall of Fame, SAMYs (end of year athletics celebration event), press conferences, and other major public events.
Bachelor’s degree required
Minimum of four years as the play-by-play personality in a mix of athletic radio and television
Demonstrated experience working with a sports radio network or demonstrated experience in sports television production
Knowledge of internet-based (OTT) broadcasts and production
Knowledge of video and audio editing software; Adobe Creative Suite
Strong interpersonal, communication and organizational skills
Ability to establish and maintain effective working relationships with various constituencies and diverse groups
Ability to work a varied schedule including nights, weekends and holidays when required
Knowledge of NCAA and affiliated conference rules/regulations
Valid driver’s license
Intercollegiate athletic experience preferred
Knowledge of audio editing software such as Audacity
Experience supervising full-time employees preferred (though will not have direct supervisory responsibilities)
