The Department of Intercollegiate Athletics consists of more than 275 staff members and coaches and sponsors 30 varsity sports programs. These 30 programs include more than 850 student-athletes who participate in the various sports programs annually within the National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA). We are currently seeking an Assistant Director, Compliance – Financial Aid.
Description of Position: The Assistant Director, Compliance – Financial Aid applies NCAA financial aid legislation to ensure athletic teams and student-athletes do not exceed NCAA limits, ensures the disbursement of athletic scholarship awards, administers programs that are of a financial benefit to students (both scholarship and non-scholarship), and serves as the primary financial aid contact for students, parents, coaches, staff, and other campus offices.
Analyze and apply NCAA financial aid legislation to ensure teams stay within NCAA financial aid limits. Determine whether increases, decrease, and cancellations of athletic aid packages are permissible per NCAA rules. Assist in the development of the Department’s financial aid policies and procedures.
Assist coaches in determining the amount of aid to provide to student-athletes, and analyze and monitor each sport program’s athletic aid distributions. Work with financial aid office to determine whether non-athletic aid counts toward individual and team limits per NCAA rules.
Prepare, issue, and manage all National Letter of Intent packets and financial aid agreements for continuing student-athletes on scholarship. Work with Financial Aid Office to prepare and distribute all non-renewal, reduction, and cancellation of aid letters, with written appeal procedures.
Maintain comprehensive records of athletically-related financial aid awarded by the Department by sport and other categories as directed.
Organize, monitor, and maintain comprehensive financial aid files for all students on athletic scholarship. Create and maintain student-athlete financial aid records in the Compliance Student-Athlete Database and ensure batches are submitted to campus Financial Aid systems for processing.
Certify student-athletes’ outside scholarships per NCAA rules.
Assist in determining the value of a full-ride equivalency (FRE) to apply NCAA equivalency legislation.
Ensure the bookstore has an updated list of student-athletes on a book scholarship, and assist with books reconciliation process.
Bachelor's degree and equivalent training/experience.
Experience working with a University student-athlete or similar population.
Knowledge of the methods, materials, procedures, techniques, and concepts related to student-athlete development.
Must be proficient in the use of basic computer applications (Excel, Word, Outlook, etc); strong math skills and problem-solving skills.
Must have broad knowledge of Campus Solutions and Filemaker.
Must have a basic knowledge of BFS and Billing and Payment Services.
Able to perform very detailed work accurately.
Able to perform multiple and varied tasks, under considerable pressure with competing and strict deadlines.
Self-motivated to work effectively and efficiently.
Able to deal with a diverse group of people and to work successfully with everyone.
Must be able to analyze and apply NCAA and Pac-12 financial aid legislation to help ensure that violations of these rules and standards do not occur.
Must have working knowledge of federal and state financial aid awarding practices.
Master's Degree, or internship credit required for degree in progress.
Familiarity with Pac-12 Conference regulations and procedures.
Previous experience at a Division I school (preferably at the FBS level).
