The University of Missouri Sports Nutrition Department is currently seeking applicants for the position of Volunteer Performance Nutrition Assistant. This position will assist the full-time sport dietitians with the day-to-day operations of the Performance Nutrition program and will aid in the creation of a new football specific fueling station as the program moves into a new football-only facility in the summer 2019. This position will also work with select Olympic Sports based on the applicant's prior experiences and career goals. Primary responsibilities will include: assist with coordinating and providing team specific fueling needs for practices and games; aid in monitoring body weights and hydration status via urine specific gravity; assess and analyze dietary practices, body composition and energy balance; counsel and educate athletes on performance nutrition principles, food selection and food preparation; provide personalized meal and snack plans to promote achieving goals for athletic performance and health; develop and deliver nutrition education materials, presentations and demonstration on various topics; assist with inventory tracking, ordering and stocking of foods and supplements for fueling stations; research new trends and literature in sports nutrition as well as sports science and evaluate nutritional supplements for legality, safety, quality and efficacy. Start date will be July 1, 2019 with internship running through December 2019 and the possibility to extend through May 2020. Bachelor's degree required in Nutrition or related field. We are seeking candidates with strong communication, organizational, interpersonal and time management skills, creative thinking and problem solving skills, knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations, ability to work independently, take initiative and demonstrate follow-through with work tasks.
