The Assistant Women’s Volleyball Coach performs a variety of duties including planning, coaching, recruiting, managing and guiding the women’s volleyball program. The position reports to the Head Coach, or to the Athletic Director. This is a professional coaching position and all of the duties of the position must be conducted in adherence with the policies, rules, and regulations of affiliated national, regional, and state intercollegiate athletic associations, the NAIA and the University. This position may (at times) direct the work of an Assistant Coach, Volunteer or Graduate Assistant. The Assistant Coach will not engage in any outside activities in television, radio, clothing or shoe sponsorship, internet, or camps, unless those activities are expressly approved in writing and in advance by the Athletic Director.
Characteristic Duties and Responsibilities : Recruit quality prospective student-athletes and ensure timely submission of their academic records for admissions. Coordinate with the Athletic Business Office the planning of recruiting and team travel.
Plan coaching and practice sessions in accordance with NAIA and Conference regulations. Coach team members individually and in groups, and demonstrate game techniques. May manage a designated skill development area or group of positions (setter, hitters, outside hitters, defensive specialists, etc.). Develop and recommend game/match strategy and position assignments through the scouting of opponents. Always teach and demand respect and sportsmanship towards officials, opponents, teammates and oneself as well as correct techniques and skills to play the sport and to help players avoid injury. Safety of the players is always a top priority.
Comply with academic policies, standards and requirements of the university, including the monitoring and encouraging the regular progress toward an academic degree. Make good faith efforts, in cooperation with the university’s faculty and administration, to meet all student-athletes academic requirements and to integrate sports into the whole spectrum of academic life for all student-athletes. Use reasonable efforts to arrange travel and scheduling by student-athletes in such a manner as to minimize lost classroom time.
Help monitor the purchase of uniforms, equipment and supplies, including accountability for expense control and administration of the sport? budget. Insure the facilities and any checked out equipment is properly maintained and in proper order before, during and after practices or games. Participate in the selection and fitting of team equipment.
Promote the athletic program and specific sport by attending and participating in a reasonable number of public relations programs, community events, public speaking, fundraising, and marketing.
Assist in organization of sports information materials, i.e. media guides, press releases, etc., as directed by Head Coach.
Perform other related duties, such as: notifying players of practices, games, and team meetings; managing the sport network and/or facility; rental, oversight of Red Wolf Partners, Club, or Foundation; serving as recruiting coordinator, Graf center coordinator, and/or assisting with another sports.
A Bachelor’s degree is required
One (1) year full-time, professional coaching experience at the high school level or above (2 years graduate schoolwork is equivalent to 1 year professional experience) is recommended. American Heart Instructor Certification in CPR as well as playing experience at the collegiate level is preferred. A strong commitment to the student-athlete concept and a working knowledge of the NAIA rules and regulations is required.
