Position Summary: The Head Men’s Basketball Coach must possess knowledge of the sport of basketball, expertise in skills related to basketball, confidence in developing and implementing competition strategies and experience in recruiting student-athletes whose attitudes and behaviors fit with the mission of the university. The Head Men’s Basketball Coach hires and supervises assistant coaches capable of supporting the mission of the position.
The Head Coach is responsible for developing a program of sustained excellence, which emphasizes not only competitive success, but also academic achievement and servant leadership, consistent with the mission of the University.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities
All responsibilities are expected to be completed within the framework of NCAA, GNAC, university and department regulations.
Role model leadership and coaching behaviors that:
Develop and sustain a positive rapport with students, parents and other professionals in formal and informal settings including but not limited to on-court, on-campus, teaching, and recruiting.
Cultivate an environment of positivity, trust, respect, integrity and that promotes the dignity of work and encourages growth and learning.
Build and maintain an environment that adheres to and is supportive of the principles of compliance, institutional control, and academic integrity.
Develop the student-athletes in the Concordia men’s basketball program into high quality basketball players and team members.
Develop and execute recruiting strategy to best recruit student-athletes who exemplify the CU culture of excellence in competition, classroom and community.
Plan and monitor operational budget including development and execution of supplemental fundraising plan.
Develop and execute a scheduling strategy to best position the program in NCAA Division II.
Mentor student-athletes during season and out-of-season and meet regularly to monitor individual and team goals.
Promote the men’s basketball program within the CU community and throughout various public forums.
Develop positive relationships with parents, alumni, donors and sponsors.
Cooperate with and assist the Associate Athletic Director for Compliance & Academic Support/SWA in providing rules education to assistant coaches and student-athletes.
Cooperate with athletic training staff to ensure student-athlete health and wellness.
Supervise and mentor assistant coaches, promoting professional development and assuring compliance with NCAA, conference, university and department policies and regulations.
Complete essential administrative responsibilities in a timely manner including but not limited to:
Equipment inventory and purchase
Documentation of telephone, recruiting, contact and playing & practice logs
Assume a leadership role in appropriate professional conferences, clinics, and institutional meetings.
At least five years of coaching experience at the collegiate level.
Minimum Requirements (Knowledge, Skills and Abilities)
Sports specific knowledge of required skills, rules, statistics, and strategies.
Able to work in a collegial and cooperative manner with other professionals in the Athletics Department and other University Departments.
Strong interpersonal relationship skills, ability to speak publicly and ability to mentor and motivate student-athletes for excellence.
Excellent organizational skills and attention to detail. Willing and able to maintain accurate records and documentation.
Possess and maintain a valid driver’s license. Able to drive a vehicle and maintain a safe and insurable driving record through duration of employment.
Ability to drive a vehicle in varying traffic and weather conditions and in compliance with University vehicle use policies.
Maintain current certification in Standard First Aid and CPR.
Able to understand and follow rules, regulations and guidelines.
Proficient in Microsoft Windows and Office, familiar with and able to use computers, and able to learn new software.
Self-motivated and self-directed.
Able to handle confidential information with good judgement, tact and discretion.
Rules Compliance and Sanctions
Concordia’s athletics teams compete in the Great Northwest Athletic Conference (GNAC), under the auspices of National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) Division II. Thus, the men’s basketball coach is responsible for knowledge of all relevant NCAA DII and GNAC rules. If Employee is found in violation of NCAA DII and/or GNAC regulations, Employee could be subject to disciplinary or corrective action required by those organizations, in addition to any sanctions imposed by the University, including suspension without pay or termination of employment for significant or repetitive violations.
