Reporting to the Head Athletic Trainer and Director of Athletics, deliver medical services as part of a coordinated sports medicine team to nearly 200 student-athletes competing in 15 sports. Model the University Mission through dedicated job performance, service excellence to constituencies, respectful collaboration and active support of the University's Mission and Catholic and Lasallian higher education. This position requires flexibility, adaptability and a demanding work schedule along with related administrative duties. Full time with hours dependent on team practice and game schedules. Will include early mornings, evenings, weekends, and some travel. Some travel required. Expect a variety of settings including indoors/outdoors, year round, variable temperatures and some heavy lifting.
•Provide daily health care services to student-athletes including, but not limited to first aid treatment for injuries and coordinate reference/contact for athlete medical referrals. •Communicate effectively with head athletic trainer on issues in the area of athletic training and provide status reports of student-athlete injuries to the coaching staff as needed. •Supervises safety factors of athletic competition by ensuring elimination of undue hazards. •Instruct student-athletes in rehabilitative requirements for proper healing of athletic injuries; keep a daily log of injuries and treatment given. •Assist head athletic trainer in coordinating physician weekly evaluations and coverage for the Conference and National Collegiate Athletic Association events. •Consults with coaches and student-athletes on strength and nutrition programs. •Operates therapeutic devices and equipment, fits braces, guards, mouth pieces, and other devices, and recommends reconditioning procedures in cooperation with and under the direction of the team physician. •Manage the day to day operation of the athletic training room. •Help manage an inventory system and supply budget for the department •Assist with athlete clearance and obtaining pre-season medical information from players and maintain appropriate medical records •Represent the school favorably at GSC and NATA meetings. •Communication to and work with visiting and host teams ATC’s regarding medical needs. •Be a host to NCAA and GSC events as medical director when needed. •Other similar duties as assigned by supervisors.
Administrative employees in the athletics department are subject to the regulations of the NCAA. If at any time it is determined that you are in violation of such regulations, then by the provision of the NCAA enforcement procedures, you may be subject to corrective disciplinary action, up to and including termination of employment.
Bachelor’s degree is required, master’s degree is preferred.
NATA certification as an ATC and Tennessee State Licensure as Athletic Trainer Certified.
Certified in first aid and CPR required.
Must have excellent oral and written communication skills.
Must be able to work flexible schedules, including evening, weekend and holiday hours. Ability to react calmly and effectively in emergency situations.
Ability to evaluate therapeutic requirements for student-athletes, and to fit and modify therapeutic and/or protective equipment.
Skill in the use of first aid procedures.
Ability to design and implement fitness, nutrition and/or conditioning programs.
Knowledge of supplies, equipment, and/or services ordering and inventory control.
Ability to read, understand, follow, and enforce safety procedures.
