Appalachian State University seeks a Director of Performance Nutrition to work in conjunction with the strength coaches and athletic trainers regarding nutritional needs for the student-athletes. Provide nutritional services to student-athletes, staff, and support staff in the athletics department.
These services include but not limited to:
Manage all aspects of performance nutrition for assigned teams. Plan and implement all competition meals, sideline/pregame, half time and postgame meals. Budget oversight – plan and optimize team nutrition budgets for each assigned team for optimal nutrition benefits. Collaborate with administrative, coaching, and support staff to enhance performance and well being of student-athletes. Provide individual and team nutrition education and counseling to enhance the performance of the student-athlete during pre-season, in-season, and post-season. Analyze and evaluate lab values, counsel at-risk athletes, and manage all dietary supplements. Communicate with compliance staff on deregulation implementation. Supervise, train, and mentor nutrition student workers. Oversight of Fueling stations – manage nutrition stations at various locations for assigned teams. Plan menus for training table, brunch, and camp meals. Organize cooking demos for assigned teams. Develop education programming and materials for all athletes. One on one counseling.
Must have completed a Bachelor’s of Science in Nutrition. Registered Dietitian or RD Eligible. Knowledge of performance nutrition principles, practices, processes, methods, and/or procedures for a variety of student-athlete services. Ability to develop comprehensive nutritional assessments, nutritional care plans, and dietary instructions for student-athletes with multisystemic medical/nutritional conditions. Experience with providing nutritional training and/or consultation to student-athletes, staff, and support staff within an athletic department. Skilled in developing reports, compiling and organizing data/information from different sources; intermediate calculation and analysis skills; ability to identify trends within an athletic setting. Budget management experience. Excellent written and verbal communication skills. Supervisory and consultancy skills are essential.
Graduation from a four-year college or university with a bachelor’s degree in foods and nutrition dietetics or public health nutrition; or completion of an ADA Dietetic internship with ADA Commission; Dietetic Registration eligibility preferred. Degrees must be received from appropriately accredited institutions.
Experience working with NCAA Division I Student-Athletes.
