The NCAA Men’s and Water Polo Committees and the NCAA Water Polo Rules Subcommittee are requesting applications from interested individuals to serve as the NCAA National Coordinator of Water Polo Officials. This position is the NCAA’s continued commitment to improving the overall quality and consistency of officiating throughout collegiate water polo. The position will help promote better communication between officials, coaches and the NCAA, and help provide consistency in the application of NCAA water polo rules and officiating mechanics. Additionally, the program will assist the Men’s and Women’s National Collegiate Championships Committees in the identification, selection and evaluation of officials for each of the NCAA water polo championships.
Develop, in cooperation with the secretary-rules editor of the NCAA Water Polo Rules Subcommittee, educational materials (including an annual Rules video and on-line Rules test) suitable for both on-line and in-person training for college water polo officials to ensure consistency in the application of NCAA rules.
Attend the NCAA Men’s Water Polo Championship and Women’s Water Polo Championship to coordinate the officiating crew and assist in the game assignments and rotation, subject to the approval of the NCAA committee for the championship.
Submit an annual written report for review by the rules subcommittee and championships committees.
Manage the budget to ensure fiscal responsibility.
Attend meetings of the Men’s and Water Polo Committees and the Water Polo Rules Subcommittee as requested.
Communicate policies and procedures to members of the officiating community.
Assist in the development of officiating mechanics and philosophies.
Notify officials of their assignments.
Work with NCAA staff to develop an Officials’ Manual.
Other duties as assigned by the rules committee or championships committees.
Develop and present biannual national referee school in coordination with the two-year rulebook cycle.
Effectively utilize the ADVANTAGE website to support the NCAA’s commitment to improving the overall quality and consistency of officiating throughout collegiate water polo.
Work cooperatively with the Conference Supervisors of Officials (and Conference Commissioners as warranted) to ensure educational efforts at the Conference level (Evaluations, Clinics, On-line materials, etc.) are consistent with the guidance provided by the Water Polo Rules Subcommittee.
Strong written and verbal communication skills.
Strong leadership, administrative and organizational skills.
Ability to use computer technology as a means of education, including but not limited to: Microsoft Word, Excel and Power Point.
Ability to relate effectively with coaches and officials on a national level.
Shall not be an active NCAA coach, official, or conference coordinator/assignor.
Extensive knowledge of NCAA Men’s and Women’s Water Polo rules and current officiating mechanics and techniques.
Experience as an official, clinician and as an evaluator of officiating talent.
