Athletic Director Elmhurst College Position Description

General Purpose of the Job:
Elmhurst College invites nominations and applications for the position of Director of Athletics. The College is seeking a dynamic and experienced athletics administrator who will provide strategic and operational leadership to the 20 NCAA Division III athletic programs at the College. The successful candidate will be a visionary leader who will help guide the athletics department into one of the premier programs in the CCIW (College Conference of Illinois and Wisconsin).
The Athletic Director is the senior most strategic leader of the athletic department and serves as the principal representative in the field of intercollegiate athletics. Currently, the College is conducting a facilities master plan that addresses a number of athletic facility needs. The new Athletic Director will work closely with the Vice President for Student Affairs and the Advancement Office in assisting the college in ranking the athletic priorities, and in the fundraising process.
Essential Duties and Responsibilities:
•Provide strategic and visionary leadership, strategic planning and policy development leading to enrollment growth. •Provide leadership and guidance in the recruitment and retention of student-athletes. Work with individual coaches ensuring each team meets their recruitment expectations. Develop initiatives to have a positive impact on the retention of student-athletes. •Work collaboratively with campus partners to increase the overall retention of all undergraduate and graduate students. •Establish and maintain an athletics department this is committed to the College’s mission and strategic priorities. •Administers the overall athletic budget. •Recruits, manages and evaluates the athletic staff. •Represents the College’s athletic program regarding community outreach events, marketing and promotion efforts, and fundraising activities in accordance with the Advancement Office. •Develop and manage all departmental, team, and special events budgets. •Assure compliance with all NCAA, CCIW, Title IX rules and regulations and College policies. •Maintain active participation in the CCIW and NCAA compliance seminars. •Lead and manage the coordination of internal and external operations related to scheduling, travel, competition and even, and facilities use. •Serve as CCIW representative. •Maintain a professional demeanor and attitude at all times. •Communicate in a courteous manner. •Be committed to diversity and inclusion. •Demonstrate success meeting or exceeding NCAA Academic Progress Rates. •Assure that coaches are in compliance with NCAA rules and regulations (regular meetings and trainings to explain compliance procedures). •Think creatively to ensure that the purpose of the intercollegiate athletics programs remain consistent with the mission of the college.
•Education ?Preferred: Master’s degree from an accredited institution. •Minimum of 5 – 7 years of experience in athletic administration (Director, Associate Director, Assistant Director, or Senior Women’s Administrator). •Proven record of recruiting and retaining student-athletes. •Excellent written, oral and interpersonal communication skills. •Thorough knowledge and understanding of NCAA Division III rules, practices, policies, philosophy, and procedures.
