As Head Volleyball Coach: responsible for all aspects of an NCAA Division III athletic program. As Seabury Center Assistant Manager: Responsible for assisting with the daily operations of the Seabury Center and managing membership services for a college wellness/recreation facility that serves community members. Minimum Qualifications Required: Education required to ensure success in this position: • Bachelor’s degree required; • Master’s degree preferred. Experience required to ensure success in this position: • Demonstrated successful coaching experience, preferably at the collegiate level; • Demonstrated office, supervisory and management experience. Special skills, knowledge and abilities: • Outstanding knowledge in teaching and coaching volleyball; • Must be willing to work flexible hours, including nights, weekends and holidays as needed; • Strong interest in intercollegiate athletics administration and familiarity with the NCAA Division III philosophy. • Ability to prioritize and work in a fast-paced environment; • Demonstrated computer proficiency with in-depth knowledge of word processing, electronic email databases and spreadsheets; • Demonstrated organizational and leadership skills. • Knowledge of basic accounting principles and practices; • Excellent interpersonal, time management and written communication skills; • Familiarity with athletic facility management is preferred; • Demonstrated ability to solve complex problems with little or no supervision; • Ability to work and relate well to students, faculty, staff and Seabury members. License, certification, or registration necessary: • CPR/AED/First Aid; • Driver’s license. • For any certifications or memberships not possessed upon hire, certifications or memberships must be promptly attained and regularly maintained. Physical requirements: • Some heavy lifting; • Ability to move freely throughout a three-floor, 106,996 square foot athletic and recreation facility. • It is expected that the individual in this position will work at times other than, or in addition to, normal business hours and days, including attendance at numerous evening and weekend events. This is especially true from September to May. Environmental conditions: • Mostly indoor. The Seabury Center covers four levels and 106,996 square feet of space. • Ability to operate the following vehicles or equipment: • Standard computer hardware and software applications. • Be able to drive a 12-passenger van. Primary duties and responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. • Develop a competitive intercollegiate athletic program; • Coaching and supervision of coaches and support staff; • Ensure compliance with rules and regulations of all conference and national athletic affiliations; • Manage program budget within assigned funding levels; • Monitor academic progress of team members; • General facility upkeep and maintenance; • Work with the Sports Information office to ensure profile information on all players is accurate and up-to-date, student-athletes are nominated for applicable awards, schedules are updated and accurate, and post-competition statistical reporting is complete; • Communicate regularly with Athletic Training staff to ensure health and well-being of student-athletes; • Arrange travel plans and coordinate scheduling with the Director of Athletics; • Mentor and develop a positive culture for student-athletes and workers in the Seabury Center. • Serve as initial point of contact for all Seabury Center inquiries and membership services; • Implement and maintain all aspects of community, alumni and employee facility memberships and facility use, including development and maintenance of a membership and locker database; • Effectively communicate facility announcements (e.g., schedule changes, activity schedules, etc.) to all members and facility users; • Create and distribute the monthly schedule to campus community and membership; • Assist with hiring, training, supervision and evaluation of Service Desk student attendants; • Oversee set-ups and assist with management of events within the facility; • Manage the scheduling of athletic facility spaces and the reservation process; • Manage content on Seabury Center web pages and social media sites; • Process group fitness payrolls and related invoices; • Reconcile end-of-day financial statements in coordination with student supervisors and the Associate Director; • Assist with evening and weekend oversight of the facility as necessary; • Serve as Concessions Coordinator for home basketball games, to include: monitoring sales and inventory, post-game deposits, and ensuring the concessions area and workers meet local health department regulations (e.g., inspection permits and food handler licenses); • Related duties as assigned by the Director or other administrators. The head coaching appointment carries the expectation that the coach will serve as a representative and advocate for their program and our athletic department both on campus and in the local community. To this end, all coaches are required to: • Annually engage with program alumni; • Conduct fundraisers in support of their program; • Actively recruit new student-athletes to their program within Berea College and NCAA Division III guidelines; • Participate in a Special Olympics activity annually; • Maintain an on-campus presence by routinely attending certain functions or serving on a campus committee; • Support other student-athletes and teams.
