Bluefield College is seeking a qualified candidate to serve the institution as Athletic Director. The position is responsible for: providing administrative direction and oversight for all intercollegiate athletics staff, programs, facilities, and activities; ensuring compliance with all federal, NAIA, conference, and College athletics regulations; administering divisional funds and accounts in a fiscally responsible manner; sustaining a culture of sportsmanship, professionalism and respect at all levels; overseeing sports information, marketing of athletic events, and solicitation of sponsorships; and collaborating with Enrollment, Academics, and Student Development on the recruitment and retention of student athletes and with Advancement related to the Rams Club.
ESSENTIAL DUTIES, RESPONSIBILITIES, AND FUNCTIONS
The specific responsibilities of the Athletic Director include, but are not limited to, the following:
•Serve as the administrator for all of the areas under the Department of Athletics. •Provide a clear vision of the role and mission of athletics at Bluefield College that emphasizes the RAM E.F.F.O.R.T. in an effort to develop, grow, and educate students for a life of meaning and service. •Oversee, motivate, develop, and train the Athletics Division staff. Provide the support and mentoring necessary to attract, develop and retain successful personnel. •Provide leadership and management that will achieve and sustain competitive excellence across the division’s varied programs. •Develop and manage the fiscal budget for all athletic administrative areas and each intercollegiate team and oversee the wise expenditure of the funds allotted to those areas for programs, services and activities. •Develop and manage the division’s physical resources. •Serve on the College Leadership Team as the liaison for the Division of Athletics. •Work cooperatively and communicate effectively with the entire Bluefield community including students, faculty, administrators, staff, trustees, boosters, and alumni, as well as with the media and the public at large. •Annually determine and monitor through continuous institutional effectiveness evaluations the coaching staff and the entire athletics division. •Prepare annual and other reports as requested and/or assigned by the President of the College, such as to the NAIA, AAC or other ad hoc reports as needed. •Cooperate with the Office of Enrollment Management in setting and meeting recruitment goals for each athletic program and accompanying scholarship aid strategy. •Through active fundraising (in concert with the Office of Advancement) and the creation of new revenue streams, develop the resources necessary to enhance athletics programming, facilities and infrastructure in alignment with the College’s strategic vision. •Maintain compliance with federal, NAIA, conference, and College regulations. •Consistently model a high degree of customer service and student focus. Work collaboratively and support other team members. •Actively support the mission of Bluefield College and its commitments to academic and athletic excellence while promoting student athletes’ personal development, high academic achievement and full participation in all aspects of College life. •Represent Bluefield College in a professional and Christ-like manner at all times.
KNOWLEDGE, SKILLS, ABILITIES, AND EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE
The Athletics Director must have excellent communication and relational skills and successfully demonstrate broad and substantive experience in the area of athletics. The AD must have a strong knowledge of the operation of an intercollegiate athletic program, work to develop new initiatives, and possess a passion for working with student-athletes and the coaching staff.

Extensive experience with mentoring and team building.
Commitment to accountability and outcomes measurements.
Strong communication and interpersonal skills.
The ability and desire to establish positive relationships with persons of diverse backgrounds and strengths.
Excellent oral and written communication skills.
Ability to handle sensitive and confidential information with discretion.
A professional demeanor and personal presentation in dealing with people and the ability to relate well to students, staff, faculty and administration, both personally and professionally within an organizational structure, A master’s degree preferred and bachelor’s degree required.
A valid driver’s license with acceptable driving record.
