Illinois State University, a NCAA Division I institution, invites applications for the position of Karin L. Bone Athletic Study Center Academic Graduate Assistant. This pre-professional, 9-month position includes a tuition waiver and a stipend of $1,224 per month. The successful applicant must meet the admission requirements for Illinois State's Graduate School and ideally be prepared to begin working mid-August 2019. Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, conduct targeting meetings with freshman and academically at-risk student-athletes, providing guidance related to specific classes, study skills, organization, prioritization and time management; create academic reports for academic coordinators, coaches, and the Sr. Associate AD for Academics and Life Skills describing the academic performance of assigned student-athletes throughout the semester; monitor the Athletic Study Center to facilitate an environment conducive to learning; work with the CHAMPS/Life Skills program and Community Service program. As a part of your responsibilities, you will follow the regulations and guidelines of the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA), the Missouri Valley Conference and the Missouri Valley Football Conference, the Athletics Department and Illinois State University.
Required qualifications include: Bachelor’s Degree; eligibility for appointment per the requirements in the Graduate Assistant Handbook; graduate student at Illinois State University majoring in College Student Personnel, Social Work, or Sports Management.
Preferred qualifications include: outstanding leadership skills; organizational/time-management skills; oral and written communications skills; and a sincere desire to see student-athletes succeed in the academic arena.
