6 Points Sports Academy is a residential, Jewish summer sports camp located at Occidental College in Los Angeles, CA. Athletes ages 8-16 attend overnight sessions lasting 2, 4, or 6 weeks and select from five sport major options to focus their summer training (baseball, basketball, soccer, swimming or tennis).
Assistant Head Coaches are responsible for improving the athletic skills and abilities of their campers. They are relied upon by the Head Coaches to help implement coaching plans. Sports majors are opportunities for coaches to use their personal experiences to teach, challenge and empower campers. Coaches also coach and run electives, recreational activities designed for campers to have fun and be exposed to new athletic experiences.
Assistant Head Coach Responsibilities •Create a safe and supportive environment to cultivate camaraderie and friendships between campers within and across assigned age group, majors and elective sports •Assist Head Coach in the planning, implementation and evaluation of “Sport Majors” •Assist Head Coach with on-going skill evaluations and assist athletes in setting individual goals; complete end of session written evaluations for each athlete •In partnership with Head Coach, mentor assistant coaches throughout the summer •Partnering with other counselors to ensure full camper supervision during all scheduled activity blocks insuring that all campers exercise good hygiene and health practices including but not limited to daily showers, healthy eating habits and hydration, visits to nurse for daily medication (when necessary) and wearing and using proper attire for prolonged, outdoor activities •Plan and execute elective programming •Be present and actively participate in all camp programming including but not limited to Shabbat Services, Maccabiah (color wars), 5K, Beach trip, etc. •Participate in pre-summer planning calls with Head Coach and Athletic Director, attend pre-summer staff training week, daily coaches meetings and general staff meetings •Understand and be capable of executing all emergency procedures •Live in camp dorm and perform Super Shmira (night-time on-call duty) 1-2x per session •Attending pre-camp orientation, in-service trainings and all staff meetings
These are not the only duties to be performed in this position. Some duties may be reassigned and other duties may be assigned as required at the discretion of the Camp Director. Camp is a communal environment, to which each individual brings his or her own strengths. The ideal situation is when each staff person adds to the program by sharing his or her expertise and skills to enrich the entire camp life for all, regardless of their job title and job description.
Assistant or Head Coaching experience at select club, high school or college level in respective sport. Residential camp experience is desirable; experience with childcare in camp or other educational setting required.
Additional Salary Information: commensurate with experience. Includes room, board, and travel reimbursement up to $350
