This position is responsible for the duties normally associated with a Division I head coach including: prospect evaluation, recruiting, training, coaching, student-athlete academic achievement, student-athlete conduct and welfare, compliance with the NCAA, conference and institutional rules, budgetary control, scheduling assistance, promotions, public relations, development activities and the overall effective performance of the student-athletes and coaching staff.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities:
•Provide leadership and instruction in the personal and athletic development of student-athletes, to include counseling team members in academic, disciplinary, sportsmanship and personal matters, as appropriate. Operate a program that is fiscally responsible and balances its budget.
•Develop a competitively successful team which represents IUPUI positively and responsibly, and which provides student-athletes the opportunity for a positive experience and climate in which to achieve their academic, athletic and personal goals. Represent the team, department and University in a positive, professional and ethical manner; be appropriately responsive to media, marketing, fundraising and community service requests, as assigned. Exhibit professionalism consistent with the missions and goals of IUPUI, conference and the NCAA. Exhibit positive coaching techniques.
•Perform recruiting duties, including, but not limited to: formulate a plan to incorporate coverage of all prospective student-athletes on a national level and recruit high-quality student-athletes that meet or exceed university qualifications. In addition to the duties and responsibilities above the coach is expected to comply fully with all NCAA, conference and IUPUI rules, regulations, policies, and procedures. Failure to do so may result in disciplinary action up to and including termination of employment. Perform other duties as specified in coach’s employment agreement and as assigned.
•Active engagement with former student-athletes, community members, and athletics staff to develop a comprehensive engagement, marketing, and fundraising plan. Serve as a visible presence on campus to engage with students, faculty, and staff outside of athletics. Perform other duties as assigned.
Bachelor’s Degree from an accredited university, plus 2 years of coaching experience or equivalent, preferably at the Division I level. Must have Valid Driver’s License and maintain certifications in CPR, first aid, and AED.
Knowledge, skills and abilities: Excellent organizational skills required; ability to multi-task, meet deadlines, and work independently; ability to effectively communicate with diverse constituencies. Employee must understand and comply with NCAA, conference, and University rules, regulations, policies and procedures. Knowledge, skill and ability in the sport. The incumbent will have to be certified by the NCAA on an annual basis to recruit and understand all policies related to recruiting.
