The Position: The Head football coach is a key position at Thiel College and reports to the Director of Athletics. The College seeks a dynamic leader of its football program, who will work with the administration, athletics leadership, students, faculty, staff, and alumni across the College to develop and build the program. Recruiting, mentoring and maintaining a staff of superior coaches is paramount.
The qualified candidate will be responsible for the Thiel NCAA Division III football program and will be expected to abide by and uphold the regulations of the NCAA Division III and the Presidents’ Athletic Conference.
Key duties will include recruitment, retention, coaching, scheduling, team travel, budget management and supervision of assistant coaches, as well as monitoring student-athletes’ academic progress.
The successful candidate will have a strong commitment to academics and athletics success, with a demonstrated ability to identify, recruit, and retain student-athletes, a proven record of outstanding leadership, and strong organizational skills.
Bachelor’s degree required, Master’s degree preferred. Head coaching or coordinator experience in a successful NCAA program is highly desired.
Essential Job Functions
Build a team of highly motivated student-athletes that show a strong commitment to the Division III philosophy, Thiel College and the football program.
Develop and implement a comprehensive recruiting plan that will identify, recruit and retain qualified student-athletes that meet College admission standards and qualifications to consistently meet or exceed recruitment goals.
Maintain target roster size set by the
Teach/instruct student-athletes through fundamentals, motivation, and promoting positive values consistent with Divisions III and the mission of Thiel College.
Hire, supervise, develop, and evaluate a coaching staff including three full-time 12-month coordinator positions.
Ensure a commitment to the academic success of the football student-athletes, including monitoring academic performance, attendance, and social behavior.
Manage all operational, fiscal, and administrative duties associated with the football program including balancing the annual football operating budget.
Develop playing schedule in conjunction with the Director of Athletics
Manage care of appropriate facilities and equipment.
Coordinate with the Director of Athletics fundraising activities.
Exhibit the highest degree of sportsmanship and professionalism at all times.
Serve on campus committees as needed.
Know and adhere to all college policies.
Know and adhere to all sport-specific rules of the President’s Athletic Conference.
Know and adhere to all Division III rules governed by the NCAA.
Serve as Game Day Administrator for events/competitions as directed by the Director of Athletics.
Serve as facilities monitor of all Thiel College athletic facilities as directed by the Director of Athletics.
