The program of Intercollegiate Athletics is organized and conducted as an integral part of the total educational program of the University. Academic excellence and athletic accomplishments go hand in hand at Sacramento State. There are three separate and unique missions in this program: to contribute to the educational objectives of the University; to provide a healthy, competitive athletic experience to individual student-athletes; to serve as a public relations vehicle within the community.

Intercollegiate Athletics are members of the Big Sky, Big West, Western Athletic Conference, Mountain Pacific Sports Federation and American Athletic Conferences.
The Associate Athletic Director for Business (AADB) is responsible for managing the Sacramento State Division I Intercollegiate Athletics budget totaling ~$14M ($7.5M Student Fees, $3M general funds, $1.5M NCAA/conferences, and ~$2M from fundraising and other sources). The AADB reports to the Director of Athletics (AD), and collaborates with the Student Affairs Director of Business Operations (DBO) in relation to the operations of the Athletics Business Office, establishing Athletic Department budgets, overseeing audits, etc. The AADB works closely with the AD to plan for the financial resources and expenditure of the Athletics program and manages four professional and support staff and one or more student assistants to develop and implement fiscal plans. The position directs and provides administrative oversight for the financial and budgetary operations of Sacramento State Intercollegiate Athletics, in accordance with the policies of Intercollegiate Athletics, Sacramento State, the California State University System, University Enterprises Inc., and National Collegiate Athletics Association (NCAA).
EDUCATION/EXPERIENCE 1. Bachelor’s degree from an accredited four year college or university. 2. Three or more years of progressively responsible professional experience in the areas of financial management, accounting, compliance and/or budgeting. 3. Three or more years of experience effectively managing professional and support staff. SKILLS/ABILITIES 4. Excellent organizational skills to work effectively in a fast-paced environment with competing deadlines 5. Demonstrated ability to understand and analyze a variety of numerical data sets (e.g. revenue and expense reports, workforce/salary reports, and budgets) 6. Demonstrated skill in the research, development, and evaluation of policies and procedures related to fiscal administration 7. Demonstrated ability to effectively interpret, organize, and present financial information 8. Excellent written and verbal communication skills 9. Excellent interpersonal skills to establish and maintain cooperative working relationships within a diverse organization 10. Ability to effectively use common computer application programs and related computer software packages (e.g. Microsoft Office Suite: Word, Excel, PowerPoint, Access, database, internet) CONDITIONS OF EMPLOYMENT - Ability to pass background check
11. Five or more years of progressively responsible professional experience in the area of financial management, accounting, and/or budgeting 12. Two (2) or more years experience working in Intercollegiate Athletics, particularly in budget planning and administration 13. Experience managing staff in a collective bargaining environment 14. Knowledge of NCAA policies, practices and financial accounting and reporting requirements 15. Experience working with CFS (Common Financial Systems) at a California State University 16. Master’s degree in business, public administration, or a related field
