Position duties, responsibilities and competencies:
Conduct of the Women's Lacrosse program that, as a demonstration of quality and success, (1) consistently places in the top 50 percent of its conference, qualifies for conference championship play; (2) maintains an exemplary student-athlete academic success rate (95 percent graduation rate, less than 5 percent academic failure rate, 75 percent retention rate, average GPA 2.5 or better); and (3) demonstrates positive personal development of student-athletes whose behavior and public representation of SUNY Maritime College is exemplary at all times.
Directly supervises: Assistant coach
Design and implement a training program that advances individual and team performance skills, to support the achievement of the program's purpose
Advance each student-athlete's level of knowledge with regard to sport nutrition, biomechanics, exercise science, and sport psychology as it relates to improvement of sport performance
Design a competitive schedule that maximizes athlete development and performance
Recruit high-quality athletes capable of performing at desired levels
Recruit athletes capable of completing the baccalaureate degree and performing academically at levels reflecting program objectives
Conform to the highest standards of professional conduct regarding compliance with department and institutional policies and procedures and adherence to the rules and regulations of athletic governance organizations of which the institution is a member
Demonstrate master teaching competencies with regard to (a) sport skill instruction, (b) motivation, and (c) coaching skills during competitive events
Relate well to administrators, officials, high school coaches, parents, the media, alumni, donors, and the public
Provide strong leadership in the personal development of student-athletes as demonstrated by high standards of behavior and good public speaking skills of all team members
Demonstrate a high level of involvement in the personal and academic development of student- athletes through the support of the department's academic and personal development programs serving those student-athletes
Manage a cost-effective and administratively efficient sport program
Exhibit good writing and speaking abilities
Train and supervise assistant coaches toward the end of developing head coach capabilities and supporting all program objectives
Adhere to department policy regarding coaches code of ethics
Contribute to the maintenance of good working relationships with all staff, student-athletes, and external constituents through (a) a positive and constructive approach to all tasks, (b) respect for the competencies of others, and (c) appropriate conflict resolution behavior
Athletic Operations Assistant:
Responsible for game day supervision coverage for home events (August - December) in accordance with the staffing plan established by the Director of Athletics.
Communicate with all parties involved (head coach, opposing teams contact, officials, student workers).
Supervise game day student workers.
Ensure field/court is set up and ready for game day competition.
Ensure all locker rooms are ready for opposing team arrival.
Welcome/greet officials for all scheduled competition.
Ensure all game day paperwork is complete prior to the start of each contest.
Welcome/greet all opposing teams.
Present during all contests, focused on crowd control, player-staff-official's safety.
Supervise and oversee game day events (including but not limited to pre-game events, half-time events and post-game activities).
Escort opposing teams and officials out of the venue.
Ensure the field/court/locker rooms are in good order following each contest.
Report any/all incidents to the Director of Athletics.
Report any/all facility issues to the Assistant AD for Facilities.
Attend all mandatory staff meetings for full time employees
Home event supervision duties as assigned as assigned
Completion of Campus Security Authority Training, HR Module Training, Van Driver Certification, NCAA Exam
All other duties assigned by the Athletic Director
Possess a Bachelor's degree from an accredited college or university
Demonstrated lacrosse coaching experience
Knowledge of NCAA Division III rules
Excellent interpersonal, teaching and communication skills are essential
Ability to recruit student athletes, develop successful programs and maintain operations (budget, equipment ordering, NCAA eligibility, game management, etc.)
Possession of a valid Driver's License. Must have a motor vehicle record which is free from major violations or a pattern of repeat violation
Preferred Qualifications The ideal candidate, in addition to the above, will:
Have 3+ years of lacrosse coaching experience at the intercollegiate level
Possess a Master's degree from an accredited college or university in physical education or related area.
Exhibit prior experience with student-athlete recruitment or the evidence of potential for success in recruitment
Demonstrate evidence of ability to work well with college-age student-athletes and proven ability to perform administrative aspects of the program
Current Certification in First Aid, AED, and CPR
Classification/Salary Range: The Head Women's Lacrosse Coach/Athletic Operations Assistant is a UUP position. The anticipated salary range for the position is $41,815 - $44,000 annually, with an outstanding benefits package (for more information please see the UUP Benefit Summary). Special Notes: This is a full-time calendar year appointment UUP Position. Fair Labor Standard Acts (FLSA) Exempt position, not eligible for the overtime provisions of the FLSA. Internal and external search to occur simultaneously.
