Assistant Coach, Cross Country/ Education Support Assistant Athletics 1500 Hours, Part-time, Temporary Wage, Non-exempt Position #T0021

RESPONSIBILITIES: •Scouting, talent assessment and recruiting •Coaching knowledge and techniques •Administrative tasks as assigned by the Head Coach •NCAA and Big South rules compliance •Community and university involvement •Fiscal responsibility •Participates in sports camps and clinics with approval from the Head Coach •Provide training, direction, encouragement and motivation to prepare student-athletes in; teambuilding, academic success, team strategy and planning and sportsmanship •Identify potential problems and possible solutions, form conclusions and approaches to problems, as well as developmental needs of others through coaching, mentoring or otherwise helping individuals improve their knowledge or skills
REQUIREMENTS: •High School Diploma or equivalent •Bachelor’s Degree or equivalent combination of training and work experience preferred •Experience at the high school level or above with distance running •A strong commitment to the Student-Athlete concept and a working knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations •Demonstrated ability to perform physical activities that require the use of arms and legs and moving the entire body, such as climbing, lifting, balancing, stooping and handling of materials •Must be willing to travel and meet University eligibility to drive state fleet vehicles, including vans or mini-buses
Pay Band 1. Hiring range is $8.00 to $12.00 per hour. Position limited to a maximum of 29 hours per week and 1500 hours per work year. Commonwealth of Virginia benefits do not accompany this position. A successful criminal background check is required. Position will be posted a minimum of five days.
