UMKC is seeking to hire an Athletic Communications Director. The person in this role must have demonstrated expertise in sports information and communications with capacity to participate and be engaged in a multifaceted team in a fast-paced environment working to elevate and activate brand awareness of UMKC Athletics.
The primary function of this position is to research, develop, design, and execute complex and strategic communications, educational or media projects for UMKC Athletics Department. •Oversight of the UMKC Athletics website •Media relations contact for the athletics department and all teams •Managing game-day personnel in the areas of web streaming, statistics, and table crew •Producing game notes and recaps, news releases and featured stories •Developing and implement media relation plans for athletics media relations department •Pitching stories to appropriate media outlets, tracking and clipping media mentions, tracking with media contacts, coordinating with university resources as necessary •Maintaining complete historical records including photography and video archives for the Athletic Department •Supporting Athletic Department’s special events and projects through the development of promotional materials •Assisting with the marketing and promotions of the athletic department •Additional duties as assigned

A Bachelor's degree or an equivalent combination of education and experience and at least 2 years of experience from which comparable knowledge and skills can be acquired is necessary.
Possesses strong written and oral communication skills with a background in media relations and/or journalism. Strong organizational skills and the ability to manage multiple tasks. Creative thinker and high sense of self-motivation. Experience with Dakstats, StatCrew or similar statistical software. Knowledge of NCAA publicity and statistical policies. Ability to work various hours, including many nights, weekends and holidays. Experience with the Adobe Creative Suite of programs including InDesign and Photoshop desktop. Experience as a student in a college sport information office setting.
