Position Summary and Responsibilities Vassar College invites applications for the position of Interim Head Men's & Women's Rowing Coach. This is a full-time, non-tenure track faculty, benefit-eligible position. Weekend, holiday, early morning and/or late evening hours are required.
The successful candidate will serve as the interim head coach for the 2018-19 academic year for the varsity club sports of men's and women's rowing. Responsibilities include but are not limited to:
- Organize all walk-on recruitment and retention efforts - Budget management - Race strategies and competitive coaching - On-water and dry land instruction for practices and games - Player and team development - Fundraising and community service - Facilities and Equipment management for all rowing venues (3 buildings and 2 docks) and on-campus erg room - Assure safety of student-athletes in regards to water and weather conditions - Travel for games and practices at the boathouse - Competitive scheduling - Report all competition results to Athletic Communication staff - Academic monitoring - Alumni engagement - Additional duties in the department (i.e.: teaching, facilities or game management)
The head coach is also expected to adhere to all NCAA, US Rowing, ACRA and Vassar College rules and regulations.
Start Date - December 10, 2018 or sooner if available.
Bachelor's degree; coaching or rowing experience at the collegiate level. Certification in CPR, AED and First Aid is mandatory and can be obtained through Vassar College as needed. A valid driver's license, official academic transcript(s) and the successful result of a background check are mandatory.
Master's degree in a related field; minimum of 3-5 years coaching experience at the collegiate level; demonstrated ability to recruit and retain student-athletes who are committed to academic and athletic excellence; experience with fundraising and/or alumni relations. The ideal candidate will have strong interpersonal, organizational, and written/oral communication skills as well as demonstrated success as an assistant or head coach at the collegiate level.
