Job Description Summary: The assistant coach provides assistance in all phases of coaching an NCAA Division I Men’s & Women’s Track & Field program including: student-athlete recruitment, meet preparation, player evaluation, academic coordination and practice and meet coaching. The coach will also provide administrative support as assigned.
Description of Primary Duties: Responsible for a particular aspect of the sport as assigned by the Head Coach, planning short and long terms objectives under the leadership of the head coach, demonstrating technical expertise in the basics of the sport, and teaching the fundamentals and advanced level skills to student-athletes, recruiting prospective student-athletes, supervising practice sessions, providing expert advice to the head coach and team members, providing guidance or mentoring to student athletes throughout the academic year, coordinating with the Academic Advisors in the Eli Center, and monitoring academic progress of participating student-athletes. Working nights and weekends are standard and expected. Good communications skills and recruiting rapport with prospective athletes is essential and desired. Additional duties may be required at the discretion of the Head Coach or the administration.
The emphasis of this position will be working with athletes in the long jump, triple jump, and high jump.
Minimum Acceptable Qualifications
Education: A Bachelor's degree is required. Applicants should currently possess or have the ability to pass First Aid/CPR training.
Experience: At least two years of experience in coaching at the intercollegiate level is preferred. Any coaching experience in a NCAA Division I level program is preferred. Demonstrated knowledge of NCAA and Summit League rules and regulations governing recruitment, eligibility and related functions is required.
Skills: Excellent interpersonal skills are required. Management and organizational skills are required. The ability to develop knowledge of, respect for, and skills to engage with those of other cultures or backgrounds is required. Must have a valid driver’s license.
