The Director of Athletics is a full-time senior level management position reporting to the President and serves on the President's Cabinet. Acknowledged as one of the leading NCAA Division II programs in the nation, Delta State's athletics program is built upon the ideal of “life in the balance” — the blend of academics and athletics. Delta State competes in 13 intercollegiate sports, and is a charter member of the Gulf South Conference.
The successful candidate must be able to demonstrate the ability to continue a commitment to academic excellence for student-athletes while promoting and sustaining a clear vision for competing at the highest level within the Gulf South Conference and the NCAA. The individual should possess exceptional organizational skills, be capable of handling multiple tasks, and be able to maintain the efficient administration of day-to-day operations of the intercollegiate athletics program. In addition, it is essential that the individual have experience in planning and administering a departmental budget and the proven ability to maintain the fiscal integrity of the athletics program. The successful candidate must ensure a commitment to diversity and demonstrate knowledge of Title IX rules and regulations. The director must be able to work with coaches and athletic administrators to engage in campus activities and build support for the athletic programs among various constituency groups. The director will be expected to develop long-term strategies and facilities planning, membership support, and coordinate fund raising activities in cooperation with the DSU Foundation. The director is also required to be knowledgeable of and abide by the rules and regulations established by DSU, the Gulf South and NSISC Conferences, and the NCAA.
Qualifications: Minimum qualifications for this position include a bachelor’s degree (master’s degree preferred), five years of successful athletic administrative experience in intercollegiate athletics or a related field with an emphasis on marketing, fundraising, and management skills. The candidate must have demonstrated competencies in organizational, fiscal, and personnel management as well as leadership skills. The candidate must have a record of academic and ethical integrity, exceptional communication, public presentation skills, and demonstrated ability to work effectively with students, faculty, staff, alumni, and the community.
Salary: Commensurate with experience, qualifications, and university’s resources.
