The Division of University Relations at West Virginia University is seeking applications for the position of Brand and Trademark Licensing Manager. This position will assist the Director of Brand and Trademark Licensing with maintaining compliance with University, state and federal laws, standards, policies and regulations to protect the integrity of University marks and logos owned by WVU. This position will facilitate the development and implementation of policies and procedures for the treatment of trademarks and with establishing strategic direction, goals and objectives for the department. This will involve strategic planning and execution for various marketing strategies to advance the University's retail presence and licensing program by creating and implementing local/national/international marketing campaigns.
In order to be successful in this position, the ideal candidate will: •Assist the Director in the development, implementation and evaluation of the department’s strategic licensing plan. •Develop and creates new marketing campaigns to enhance the WVU brand and to aid in the sale of licensed products. •Assists licensees in the understanding of current market trends affecting consumer perceptions of collegiate licensed products by meeting with licensees to review their business and apparel lines and the local marketplace. •Assist in analyzing royalty reports and other data to assist Director in developing strategic brand management programs; prepares other industry-related reports as requested. •Cultivate relationships with licensees and retailers by conducting and attending licensee/retailer events, tradeshows and meetings to increase awareness of University initiatives and activities. •Research market trends and conducts research and comparative analysis of peer institutions for trademark licensing activities, and evaluate those activities to develop specific ways the University can adapt and set trends in the field of higher education. •Assist Director with reviewing and approving company/licensee requests and manages the retail artwork approval component for Trademark Licensing. •Assist with federal trademark registration renewal process and with the recordation of trademarks at US Customs. •Coordinate events for retailers and licensees and other designated appreciation events. •Collaborate with the Assistant Vice President and the University Relations outreach team with public relations strategies to market and brand the University to potential students, state government, University affiliates and all other WVU stakeholders. •Other duties and responsibilities as assigned.
Qualifications •Bachelor's degree
•Three (3) years of experience in trademark licensing, branding, marketing, sport management, retail or related field. •experience in managing marketing projects is preferred. •An equivalent combination of education and experience may be considered; experience as a graduate assistant and/or internships may also be included. •Ability to communicate effectively and efficiently in a professional manner. •Demonstrated ability to manage complex issues and to creatively solve problems. •Knowledge of basic contracts, trademark laws, and property rights laws.
