The Assistant Coach assists the Head Coach in the administration of all aspects of the basketball program including coaching, recruiting, student-athlete mentoring and ensuring program compliance with the NCAA, Conference and College rules and regulations.
Duties and Responsibilities: Achieving a high level of competence in sport skill instruction, motivation, and conduct of practice sessions under the direction of the Head Coach. Providing effective sport instruction during contests. Recruiting student-athletes effectively under the direction of the Head Coach. Exhibiting the highest professional standards and ethical behavior with regard to adherence to NCAA, Conference, College, and the Department of Athletics Code of Conduct. Achieving competitive results that demonstrate athletic excellence. Demonstrating a sincere interest in the social, emotional, academic development, as well as the athletic welfare of student-athletes. Demonstrating excellent writing, speaking and listening abilities. Exhibiting supportive and cooperative behavior in pursuing sport program goals established by the Head Coach and/or Athletic Director. Exhibiting leadership and professional behavior in dealing with student-athletes. Completing all assignments made by the Head Coach including but not limited to scouting, fundraising and fan-raising. Participating in department meetings, workshops to increase professional skills and knowledge. Contributing to the maintenance of good working relationships within the Athletic Department and with the rest of the College community. Assuming other responsibilities as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Requires Bachelor’s degree and coaching experience; excellent oral and written communication skills; strong organizational skills; ability to support high academic standards and to motivate students; demonstrate enthusiasm for sport program goals; and knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations.
