Responsibility for directing the day-to-day business operations of the Athletic Association. Work requires knowledge of theory and practice of general business disciplines and accounting practices, as well as the budget formulation and forecasting, and the analysis of financial transactions.
• Oversee accounting personnel (payables and receivables); answer accounting questions along with coordinating monthly and annual closings, and year-end processing. Includes approval of time cards and leave, along with annual performance evaluations.
• Assist in coordination of annual financial audit in accordance to GAAP standards. Includes submitting end of year financial reports, reconciliations, and other information to external auditors to assist them in preparation of audited Financial Statements. Assist with coordination of internal audits. • Approves UGAA travel expense reports, checking for propriety, correct account usage, budget and required signatures. • In coordination with accounting staff, develops and compiles the UGAA annual and quarterly financial statements. Compiles and submits annual EADA and NCAA financial reporting. Regularly reviews the balance sheet and income statement to detect budget issues or other irregularities. Takes appropriate action to correct as needed in the form of a journal entry or budget changes. • Interacts with accounting staff on all aspects of the operation providing assistance and direction as needed.
Manage inventory controls and processes of UGAA equipment. Conduct semi-annual inventory reconciliations and assists with preparing information for property taxes
Assists in coordination of employee contractual compensation payments, review of bi-weekly payroll, monthly payroll reconciliation and the development of annual Association salary budget.
Analyze financial data to determine and recommend changes needed for improvement Analyze departmental processes and recommend improvements Work with department leadership to establish short and long term financial plans and goals for department of athletics
Implementation, management and development of internal travel and business website and other duties as assigned.
Completion of a Bachelor’s degree in accounting, business, or a related discipline with five years of related experience required; or any equivalent combination of education, training, and experience.
Strong interpersonal, management, communication and organizational skills, an in-depth knowledge of NCAA rules and regulations and the ability to effectively represent the University within and outside of the campus community are required.The position requires knowledge in the area of accounting, accounts payable/receivable, and the ability to maintain the financial status of a variety of statements and records. Excellent computer skills including an extensive knowledge of Microsoft Office suite (Outlook, Word, and Excel) and competence in creating and working with spreadsheet applications are also required. Demonstrated the ability to juggle multiple tasks and work cooperatively and effectively with a wide range of staff across a department. Excellent communication and customer service skills, an aptitude for working with numbers, and above average analytical skills are essential. Must be an independent thinker, self-motivated, and accustomed to working in a high volume, fast-paced, detail-oriented work environment. Attention to detail and organizational skills are crucial for this position
