Responsibilities: Under general supervision, serve as one of six primary Outcomes Advisors for intercollegiate (ICA) student-athletes. Provide comprehensive, advanced academic and career/vocational advising on a wide range of complex issues to undergraduate ICA student-athletes, with a particular focus on first generation students and students from underrepresented communities.
Independently handle review, tracking and management of all academic and Outcomes requirements. Interpret and implement UC Davis (UCD), ICA, and NCAA policies, liaise with ICA compliance and UCD Registrar Offices, and administer Outcomes activities for the department. Work with ICA department staff (Outcomes, external relations, and development) on Outcomes program development and administration. Manage quality assessment and policy development of various Outcomes programs.
Minimum Qualifications: Experience counseling and advising high school or college-aged students, including academic planning and course selection techniques, study skills, and NCAA or UCD policies and procedures; and/or experience in vocational/professional/transitional advising with students who have significant athlete identities.
-Experience counseling and advising studentswho are first generation and/or knowledge of the unique challenges first generation college students may face.
-Experience counseling and advising students from underrepresented communities and/or knowledge of the unique challenges students from underrepresented communities may face.
-Demonstrated experience and general knowledge of university and NCAA requirements and policies regarding progress towards degree and eligibility for competition.
-Excellent interpersonal and communication skills (including presentation skills) and demonstrated ability to communicate professionally and effectively with faculty, staff, coaches, student-athletes and the public.
-Writing, editing, organizational and proofreading skills to answer correspondence, write reports and develop informational materials in a timely fashion.
-Computer skills using word processing and database software programs (e.g. Microsoft Word and Excel) as well as the ability to learn new platforms specific to ICA operations).
-Knowledge of university policies related to undergraduate intercollegiate student-athlete requirements for registration, academic progress, and compliance with university and NCAA regulations.
-Knowledge of UC policies regarding affirmative action and privacy of information.
-Knowledge of campus administrative reporting deadlines as well as procedures related to advising and instructional processes.
-Skills to obtain, correlate and analyze data and develop statistics from a variety of campus sources.
-Skills to retrieve and assemble information for the preparation of reports, schedules, correspondence etc.
-Experience with OASIS, Banner, Canvas, and other UC Davis-specific platforms relevant to advising.
-Knowledge of statewide, national and international college and university programs and resources.
