Job Purpose Towson University is accepting application for an Athletic Academic Achievement Intern. Under the general direction of the Director for Athletic Academic Achievement, the position provides and assists with the academic support for assigned student-athletes according to University, CAA and NCAA rules. Key interactions are with the Athletic Academic Advisor for Football, other staff Athletic Academic Advisors/Learning Specialists, and students-athletes in the performance of duties.
Description The Athletic Academic Achievement Intern tracks the academic progress of an assigned caseload of student-athletes. Meets with assigned caseload of student-athletes to mentor and advise. Records all interactions with student-athletes to ensure proper documentation; assists in monitoring daily study hall. This position is intended to give hands-on experience and to prepare individuals for a full time position advising student-athletes at the collegiate level. Other duties may be assigned by the Director for Athletic Academic Achievement.
Qualifications Bachelor's degree and one year of experience in advising, mentoring, tutoring and/or other related experience. An ability to work with diverse cultures and personalities is required as well as a desire to interact in a team approach with other staff members and other professionals. Ability to be highly organized, time efficient and communicate well and in a timely fashion. Experience as a student-athlete and experience as a study hall monitor and/or tutor preferred. Master's degree also preferred.
Except for qualifications established by law, additional related experience and formal education in which one has gained the knowledge, skills, and abilities required for full performance of the work of the job class may be substituted for the education or experience requirement on a year-for-year basis with 30 college credits being equivalent to one year of experience.
A Criminal Background Investigation is required for the hired candidate and the results may impact employment.
Salary and Benefits $10.10/hour and a contract that offers annual leave, holidays, sick days. Contractual employees scheduled to work 30 or more hours per week may be eligible for subsidized health benefits coverage. The position is contingent on funds being available at time of hire.
