Reporting to the Assistant Athletic Director of Communications, the Athletic Communications Intern responsibilities include:
Serve as point-person for sports webcasting and online video presence for Wesleyan’s varsity sports.
Serve as primary media contact for specific sports assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director of Communications.
Produce game handout programs.
Serve as the primary in-game statistician (utilizing StatCrew and Presto Stats Entry) in conjunction with the Assistant Athletic Director of Communications, either as a spotter, entering data or training student workers.
Write post-game stories/summaries for the web, social media and outside media.
Write a limited number of feature stories on student-athletes for the football program, the Alumni Magazine and other outlets as requested.
Write a limited number of feature stories for the website.
Help keep the Athletic website and social media platforms up to date.
Help organize the athletic photos.
Under the direction of the Assistant Athletic Director of Communications, oversee the process of organizing and managing a program for staffing athletics events, with sports information personnel, at game day events hosted by the University.
Evening and weekend work will be required depending on games schedule.
Other responsibilities as assigned by the Assistant Athletic Director of Communications.
This is a part time position that works the academic year (43 weeks from August 2018 – June 2019). Funding for this position has been approved for 1 year. Continuation of the position is contingent upon continued funding.
Bachelor’s degree and up to 1 year of experience as a writer in sports journalism, sports information management, sports reporting, marketing, public relations, communication or related field. Student experience will be considered.
Familiarity in a number of software applications like InDesign, Photoshop, Word, Excel, Facebook, Twitter, Instagram or other similar applications.
Strong oral and written communication skills, and effective interpersonal skills.
Well-versed in a variety of sports and an avid fan of many.
Up to 1 year of experience with the media, computers, web, video and social media,
Must be able to work a flexible schedule to include evenings, weekends, and occasional holidays.
Demonstrated commitment to work within a diverse environment and interact openly with individuals of different backgrounds.
Understanding of PrestoSports strongly preferred.
Strong attention to detail.
Good written and verbal communication skills; excellent ability to articulate.
