Position Summary: Valley City State University is searching for (2) Graduate Assistant Women’s & Men’s Cross Country/Track & Field Coaches, one in the area of Distance and another in the area of Sprints/Hurdles. Responsibilities include developing, directing, and advancing competitive programs. These positions will identify, recruit, and select quality student-athletes; assist in the organization and planning of practice and competitive strategies in the areas of Distance/Mid-Distance and Sprints/Hurdles. They are expected to oversee athletes’ skill and physical development; monitor student-athletes’ academic progress, performance, and retention, culminating in graduation; lead and motivate student-athletes to maximize their potential; assist with administrative duties; enforce team rules; demonstrate knowledge, understanding, and commitment to compliance with Valley City State University, NSAA conference/NAIA national policies, rules, and regulations. These positions will participate in program and departmental fundraising, public relations, and promotional efforts; participate/coach/teach in program camps/clinics for the track & field/cross country programs; and work effectively with department support services personnel to enhance the welfare and personal, social, academic, ad athletic development of student-athletes. Compensation (Per Position): Stipend of $10,000. Benefit package includes $2,000 for meals, a housing waiver if the applicant plans to live on campus, and a tuition waiver for 6 credits per semester (fall and spring) in a Valley City State University graduate program: Master of Arts in Teaching & Master of Education Application Information: Preference given to applications received on or before June 29, 2018 and review of applications will continue until the position is filled. Minimum Qualifications: Bachelor's degree and experience coaching or competing in cross country/track & field are required. Must be highly motivated with an outstanding work ethic. Successful candidates must demonstrate strong organizational skills, exceptional verbal and written communication skills, be proficient with Microsoft Office programs, and have a valid driver’s license.
Preferred Qualifications: Experience coaching and competing at the collegiate level in cross country/track & field and training experience necessary to compete at the NAIA level are preferred.
