Position: Head Coach, Varsity Girls’ Volleyball
Reports to: Director of Athletics – Competitive Sports
FLSA: Exempt - Part Time

Dates of Position: August 20, 2018 - November 6, 2018 (Monday - Friday, and some Saturdays)
Summary: In September 2014, Convent of the Sacred Heart unveiled its new Athletics and Wellness Center at 406 East 91st Street. This 50,000 square foot,state-of-the art facility marks a new chapter in the illustrious history of New York City's oldest independent school for girls. The new facility has a pool, regulation size basketball and volleyball courts, weight room, dance room, and multipurpose room. Sacred Heart is a member of the AAIS League and NYSAIS.
The Head Coach has the responsibility of developing, organizing, and promoting a successful girls’ volleyball program. The Head Coach supports the mission of the school and the athletic department, while positively and effectively leading the coaching staff, student managers, and student-athletes.
Demonstrate a sincere interest in the social, emotional, academic, moral-ethical, and athletic development of student-athletes; demonstrate the highest priority is the health, safety and welfare of student-athletes.
Demonstrate a high level of competency in sport skill instruction, motivation, and conduct of practice sessions; Achieve competitive results that demonstrate athletic excellence.
Assist in the development of a long-term program vision, plan, and curriculum.
Exhibit leadership and professional behavior and communication in dealings with student-athletes, parents, staff, and administrators.
Complete all administrative duties including, but not limited to:
Roster management, game day operations, scheduling, score reporting, transportation, management of staff and student-managers, CPR, VIRTUS and other trainings, liaison for team parents, distribution and collection of uniforms, attendance at League and CSH coaches’ meetings, communication with internal and external constituents, attendance and participation at school and athletic department special events, and other administrative duties as assigned
Mentor, lead, manage and evaluate assistant coach
Provide mentorship and support to sub-Varsity coaches
Recruit, train, manage, and mentor student-managers
Exhibit the highest professional standards and ethical behavior with adherence to AAIS, NYSAIS, School, Division, and Department of Athletics rules and regulations
Other Responsibilities: The position is also responsible for any additional tasks, not previously mentioned, that are needed to maintain and/or oversee the success of the volleyball program and Sacred Heart Athletics.
Bachelor's degree and two years of relevant experience, or a combination of education and experience. Previous high school playing and college playing experience preferred.
Demonstrated experience in planning and developing comprehensive approach to middle school and high school sport programs preferred.
Excellent verbal, written, and organizational skills with the ability to effectively manage relationships at the administrative, student-athlete, and parent level.
Ability to provide leadership and direction to student-athletes, and support student success on all levels.
Candidates must exhibit enthusiasm for the role of athletics in an independent school setting, vision and creativity, and the ability to work in a team-oriented environment.
Additionally, candidates must complete a criminal background check and must possess or obtain, prior to the start of the season, current First Aid and CPR certification.
A stipend is paid for the coaching position.
