Job Purpose Towson University, a Division I member of the Colonial Athletic Association, is seeking an Athletic Trainer. Under the direct supervision of the Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Performance, the position will Coordinate and provide health care and comprehensive athletic training services to student-athletes for football and baseball; maintain records and supplies and insure fiscal responsibility as it relates to student-athlete care. This position will report to one of the Head Athletic Trainers and must be able to work in a creative and collaborative team environment where change is embraced and innovation is encouraged. The incumbent will manage administrative duties as assigned by the Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Performance which will include overseeing medication management.
Description In consultation with the Head Athletic Trainer, the Athletic Trainer will formulate effective therapeutic treatment plans, implement treatments, and monitor progress. The incumbent must possess technical and practical expertise in the appropriate application and supervision of a wide range of rehabilitative exercises / therapy and diagnostic equipment; apply evaluative skills and techniques for orthopedic and medical problems associated with intercollegiate athletics as well as participate in the medical clearance and evaluation of incoming and returning student-athletes. Record, analyze and maintain medical records for daily treatments/rehabilitation, practice and game limitations, medical services, and referrals. Communicate and interact with medical professionals, coaches, and administrative staff; coordinate diagnostic tests; secure test results and prepare information for Physician Clinics; gather information needed for insurance claims and follow up as needed. Delegated administrative tasks and facility management responsibilities including but not limited to overseeing continuing education for the performance staff. Other duties as assigned by the Head Athletic Trainer and Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Performance. Provide supervision of athletic training students during their clinical experience.
The Athletic Trainer will coordinate care with sports medicine physicians in the integration of evidence-based rehabilitation strategies in order to ensure the student-athletes are able to effectively and safely return to full fitness/participation; work collaboratively within a sports performance model with other professionals including: Associate AD for Sports Medicine and Performance, Head Athletic Trainer, Sports Dietitian, Strength and Conditioning Coaches, Chiropractors, Massage Therapists, and Clinical psychologist, to ensure positive student-athlete experience and treatment outcomes, and to mitigate the risk of sustaining injury. Conduct and supervise injury and illness prevention, injury management, immediate care and rehabilitation of athletic injuries and provide ongoing patient supervision to ensure compliance with treatment plans, expectations, and standing operating procedures outlined by the sports medicine physicians as required by Maryland State Practice Act. This position will also serve as a preceptor to mentoring athletic training students in the Athletic Training Education Program. Will take on various other duties at the discretion of the Head Athletic Trainer and Associate Athletics Director for Sports Medicine and Performance.
Qualifications Master's Degree and evidence of clinical experience in athletic training at the collegiate level. BOC Certification and eligibility for State of Maryland license and Adult CPR/AED certification for the health care provider/first responder is required. The incumbent should possess the ability to evaluate medical condition of student-athletes prior to and during their participation in intercollegiate athletics. Under the direction of the Head Athletic Trainer implement treatments and rehabilitation services.
FMS, PES, CES, or CSCS credentials or equivalent as well as experience working with football and or baseball preferred.
