The Certified Athletic Trainer is responsible for providing quality health services to student-athletes, serving as liaison between the student-athlete and the physician. This position works closely with the Athletic Director in regard to the Athletic Department policies and procedures are they relate to the student-athlete’s health care and works directly with all coaches in the health administration of their programs (i.e., medical clearance, physical exams, physician referrals, insurance and consent forms, and safety equipment).
To direct the total intercollegiate sports program as it relates to first aid, care prevention, evaluation, treatment and rehabilitation of injuries to the University’s student-athletes; 2. To provide initial injury evaluation, recommendations and appropriate treatment, to develop a program of rehabilitation exercises, and provide follow-up care as needed; 3. To direct and coordinate student-athlete physician referrals; 4. To provide certified athletic trainer coverage for all home athletic contests and practices, travel as necessary for away events, and supervise training room with hours conducive to athletic team practice, rehabilitation and competition schedules; 5. To aid in establishment of a drug and alcohol education program for student- athletes; 6. To arrange and coordinate all pre-participation physical exams for student athletes; 7. To complete season statistics involving injuries and facility use; 8. To supervise the training room and direct and supervise the use of medical-related equipment including whirlpools, hydroculators, electrical stimulation, first aid equipment, and other related diagnostic and rehabilitation equipment; 9. To maintain complete medical-related equipment and materials such as medical histories, injury and treatment reports, physician referral reports, physician exam results, and all other related information;
To file necessary paperwork with the University’s secondary insurance; 11. To prepare athletic training budget and monitor athletic medical supplies; 12. To educate student athletes in best practices for fitness and prevention of injuries; 13. To perform AT duties during team travel when applicable; 14. To perform other duties as may be assigned by the Athletics Director
Budget Responsibilities: Develop supplies order and operate within the departmental budget.
Knowledge, Skills & Abilities: Fully qualified and certified athletic trainer with demonstrated ability to assess and manage difficult or complex situations, often in a highly charged atmosphere. Exceptional communication, interpersonal, problem-solving and decision making skills. Must be able to handle multiple tasks and facilitate strong teamwork. Requires excellent judgment, initiative and customer service.
Education: Bachelor’s Degree, NATA Certification and 1 to 3 years of relevant experience required. Master’s Degree preferred.
