Essential Functions: Assists the Assistant Athletic Director of Academic Services and participates in all aspects of academic support related to student athletes including advising, recruiting, transcript evaluation, and registration; provides backup to the Assistant Athletic Director during his/her absence to include assigning duties, checking work, approving time off, and signing timesheets of staff, approving expenditures, and attending meetings; supervises student assistants and tutorial staff; provides input on annual staff evaluations; provides reports to Director regarding student academic status and programming; ensures compliance with all applicable NCAA, Sun Belt Conference, and University guidelines related to student athlete academics; ensures coaches are aware of eligibility rules; serves on various committees; interacts with coaches, administrators, faculty, staff, and students in a professional manner; provides advising and counseling to student athletes to include goals, course selection, course load, study habits; evaluates student athlete academic records to ensure eligibility per NCAA and institutional policy and guidelines; coordinates and monitors development programs for student-athletes to include identifying at risk students and referring to appropriate resources as needed, planning and executing tutoring programs and scheduling and monitoring class study times; oversees academic support programming to include study hall and tutor assignments and monitoring; instructs student athletes with issues related to personal development; ensures services and accommodations are available for student athletes with disabilities; maintains records and files and analyzes as required; provides oral and written reports regarding student athlete academics; maintains communication with coaches regarding student-athletes academic progress; analyzes and interprets the NCAA Academic Progress Rate (APR) information for designates teams/programs; maintains frequent communication with compliance office and certifying officer regarding athletic progress and eligibility of student athletes; attends various events and meetings which may include nights and weekends; travels with athletic teams as required; regular and prompt attendance; ability to work schedule as defined and additional hours as required; related duties as required.
Bachelor's degree in a related field from an accredited institution as approved and accepted by the University of South Alabama and three years of professional experience in athletic academic support and/or athletic academic compliance. A master's degree is preferred and will substitute for up to one year of the required experience.
