As part of the athletics senior management team, the Assistant Athletics Director position is responsible for direct supervision of selected sports and provides administrative guidance and support to those coaches and their programs. The position will provide direction and oversite for camps/clinics, game day operations, hosted tournaments, and rental opportunities. The incumbent will also serve as the facility operations contact. The position works closely with administrators from various GCU offices (Student Affairs, Residence Life, Security, Catering, and Special Events). Other administrative assignments will also be included in the position. The position reports directly to the Assistant Vice-President for Athletics & Recreation/Director of Athletics and will serve on her leadership team. Administration (30%) -Serve as sports supervisor for selected sport programs including budget oversite, recruitment management, scheduling review, and other aspects related to operating a successful Division II program. -Engage in strategic planning with administrative team to enhance and strengthen the department to achieve program goals -Review department policies and practices to identify opportunities and implement procedures to enhance department operations -Assist and participate in department search and hiring processes -Serve as an athletic department resource and liaison to the campus community including serving on campus committees as appropriate
Event Management (50%) -Manage and develop revenue opportunities through facility rentals, special events, camps/clinics, summer activities, hosted tournaments, etc. -Manage operations for rentals and camps/clinics/tournaments. -Assist with identification of camp/clinic advertisement opportunities. -Lead administrator for all conference tournaments at GCU. -Scheduling/supervising of event staff and event set up and breakdown, training & managing of work-study and GCU staff for game day operations. -Assisting with training of student-staff on StatCrew; serve as secondary statistician as needed.
Facility & Program Management (20%) -Development & management of recreation/intramural program -Work collaboratively with Department of Facilities with regards to field/facility maintenance & upkeep on seven outdoor facilities and Wellness Center. Identify specific maintenance issues and work with facilities on a plan of action for all issues -Serve as equipment manager to facilitate ordering/inventory of apparel & equipment
Miscellaneous/secondary responsibilities that are sometimes involved in this job: -Game day statistics as needed (Stat Crew proficiency preferred) -Other duties as assigned by the Assistant VP for Athletics & Recreation.
Bachelor's Degree required, master's preferred
3-5 years of experience working in collegiate athletic environment (Div II preferred)
Excellent organizational skills and detail oriented
Flexible hours including some nights and weekends
Strong ability to communicate both orally & in writing with multiple stakeholders (administrators, student-athletes, alums, community partners, coaches, etc.)
Technologically proficient and adaptable to new technology
Knowledge of NCAA Division II compliance within the areas of position
