Sports Medicine, Sports Medicine - Athletic Training
Newbury College (Brookline, Massachusetts) is searching for a full-time 10-month Head Athletic Trainer/Coordinator of Sports Medicine to serve as the athletic department's designated Health Care Administrator and oversee all aspects of a comprehensive collegiate athletic training program consisting of 17 sports and the respective participants. Responsibilities include all aspects of screening, prevention and care of sports related injuries and conditions for all student-athletes. Ensure coverage of all practices and home contests. Maintain confidential files and medical records; coordinate clinical and physician appointments; maintain inventory of supplies and equipment; follow department protocol regarding missed class time due to injury; assist Director of Athletics with budget and management of all sports medicine expenditures. Perform other duties as assigned by the Director of Athletics.
Duties & Responsibilities:
The successful candidate will be responsible for managing all aspects associated with the athletic training program at Newbury College. General knowledge of principles and practices of Athletic Training and Newbury College protocol including conditioning, injury prevention, injury assessment, rehabilitation, and missed class or return to class communication. Knowledge of therapeutic preventions and treatments such as taping, bracing, and massage. Effective use of rehabilitation and exercise equipment; OSHA standards for handling blood born pathogens; maintaining medical records; and following insurance procedures. Ability and specialized skills to: effectively assess and evaluate injuries and their severity; determine the appropriate referrals for athletes to other health care professionals; administer appropriate emergency aid; possess strong interpersonal and communication skills to develop effective working relationships with athletes and to serve as a liaison among athletes, coaching staff, parents, physicians, and other health care professionals. Ability to work with a diverse student population.
Bachelor's degree in athletic training from a Commission on Accreditation of Athletic Training Education accredited athletic training program, or related field required; Master's degree in athletic training or related field preferred. Equivalent to three years previous work experience as a certified athletic trainer in intercollegiate athletics preferred. Athletic training experience with both men's and women's teams are preferred. Must possess excellent computer skills; excellent written and verbal communication, organizational, and leadership skills; strong commitment to the academic achievement of student-athletes; sensitivity to equity and diversity within the campus community; and ability to act as a mentor and exercise leadership within the role as the head athletic trainer/coordinator of sports medicine. Required to be certified as an Athletic Trainer, licensed as an Athletic Trainer in Massachusetts and First Aid and CPR/AED Certified.
