The Assistant Coach of Track and Field assists with all aspects of the intercollegiate Track and Field teams including program administration, scheduling, facility support, managing home meets, coaching, fundraising and recruiting. A strong focus is on recruiting and in-season coaching will emphasize responsibility for throwing events. Additional responsibilities may include duties as assigned at the discretion of the Director of Athletics.
Variable depending on season. Ability to work weekends and evenings. *Coaches are expected to be on campus during the academic year (late August - Reunion Weekend in June) and are expected to keep hours during this time that make them readily available to students. For full time coaches, this may involve greater than 40 hours per week in season of primary sport and varied weekly hours out of season. *It is expected that coaches will recruit during the summer months requiring possible additional travel. *Frequent overnight travel with student athletes is required during the track and field season.
Bachelor's degree preferred OR a minimum of 1-3 years of coaching experience at the post-secondary level and/or professional competitive experience. Required skills include: statistics, administrative skills and the ability to actively recruit highly qualified candidates to Bowdoin; knowledge of throwing events and the ability to effectively teach them; commitment to being a positive member of the Athletics Department, the College community and the ability to influence his/her athletes to do the same; working knowledge of NCAA and NESCAC rules and an understanding of the philosophy behind them. Administrative skills such as prioritization, organization, and budgeting are needed. The coach must be self-directed and motivated, and be able to work independently and work under pressure. Valid driver's license and ability to meet the standards of the College's current Motor Vehicle Policy is required. Current CPR, AED, and First Aid certification must be maintained.
The Assistant Coach should have experience recruiting students to highly selective academic institutions.
