The Coordinator of Sports Information and Athletic Events position is a grant-funded opportunity offered through the NCAA's Ethnic Minorities and Women's Internship Grant. Women and minorities are encouraged to apply. This internship is a full-time, 10-month appointment for a two-year grant cycle (fall 2018 - summer 2020).
Primary duties and responsibilities: To perform this job successfully, an individual must be able to perform each essential duty satisfactorily. The requirements listed below are representative of the knowledge, skill, and/or ability required. Regular and predictable attendance is essential. Reasonable accommodations may be made to enable individuals with disabilities to perform the essential functions. -Manage home athletic events, including oversight of concessions operations, ticket operations, greeting the visiting team and officials, sports information staff, event staff and the game broadcast on the Berea College Sports Network (35%); -Responsible for all statistical generation and reporting (20%); -Strategically plan and develop a Game Day the DIII Way training for our department and campus community and work with our campus SAAC to promote DIII Week (10%); -Manage the sports information budget and process payroll requests for athletic event contract workers (5%); -Hire, train and manage student workers to assist in sports information and event operations (5%); -Distribute the Visitor's Guide and serve as the point of contact for visiting sports information directors, teams and media; send rosters in Word and Statcrew format along with pronunciation guide (5%); -Nominate student-athletes and coaches for conference, regional and national awards (5%) -Develop human interest stories for the department and conference website and various publications (5%); -Manage content on the departmental website (5%); -Oversee and provide athletics social media content (5%);
Experience preferred to ensure success in this position:
-On-deadline writing experience, with 1-3 years of professional athletic communications experience preferred;
-Experience with website platforms (e.g., PrestoSports, Sidearm or similar) preferred.
-Knowledge of and experience in the sports information field.
-Experience with game or event management.
