Under the leadership of the vice president for advancement, Goucher College is in the opening months of a public launch of an ambitious comprehensive capital campaign; UNDAUNTED- Goucher’s Time for Bold Action, that will support the redefinition of liberal arts education at Goucher College. The advancement team is a highly collaborative and a committed team of individuals working in a fast-paced environment seeking to engage constituents ranging from alumnae/i, parents and friends of the College in supporting the ground-breaking initiatives including capital projects and programming needs.
We are pleased to invite and encourage qualified applicants who share this vision for redefining liberal arts education to submit applications for the position of major gift officer (MGO). The major gift officer, reporting to the Director of Campaign and Strategic Initiatives, will be responsible for managing a portfolio of donors that are considered major giving prospects; specifically working with prospects who have high capacity and/or likelihood to support the Athletic Master Plan and the Capital Projects within Athletics. The MGO will be responsible for conducting personal visits for identification, cultivation, solicitation, and stewardship purposes; developing strategies for cultivation and solicitation of donors as well as helping to develop a pipeline of prospective donors. The MGO will also plan and recruit for development events; as well as work closely with the Athletic Director on managing the Blue & Gold Society Advisory Board, and also work closely with members of the advancement team and volunteers; and attend college events, including athletic events.
Qualified candidates must have a bachelor's degree; and at least three years of progressive experience in fundraising solicitations, including a proven track record of securing support towards Athletics and Capital Projects as well as experience in success in major gift solicitations for individuals. The preferred candidate will possess at least five years of experience in successful proposals for major gifts inside Athletic fundraising. Qualified candidates must also possess both campaign fundraising experience, working knowledge of relationship management and the solicitation cycle for individuals while successfully securing six-figure gifts. Exceptional interpersonal and relationship-building skills are essential as well as strong verbal and written communication skills. Proficiency with Microsoft Office applications is required. Candidates must be able and willing to travel extensively, work evenings and weekend hours as needed. The incumbent must also have at least two years of driving experience on a state-issued license and will be subject to a driving record check as a condition of employment.
